hi guys wondering wears the nearest placed to midlothian,wer u can get trained up to repair gas appliances ie fitting them in to ie new ones . hobs cookers. an how much it costs.and does anyone think its cost efective to do so, is ther much work in that line of things? 😆

not just a case of being trained just to fit appliances adv,you will need to first pass your ccn1 which is a core to all other areas of gas work,without this you cannot gain further qualifications or perform any work,once you have passed you have to go back to school every 5 years to resit each individual qualification,bit of a pain really and pay a yearly subsciptio to gas safe :rolls: as for being worth it,well it just depends if you can get the work,i do boilers,fires,cookers and pipework so not stuck to just one area really which can help in these turbulent times,competition is just the same as in the whitegoods sector,people coming in with quotes lower than you could ever do,not trying to put you off adv,its there if you want to do it.dont know about training centers in midlothian,pls avoid these so called fasttrack courses,total waste of time and your money.HTH 8)

once you have passed your ccn1 + what ever modules you add to cover boilers, fires, etc etc you are deemed competent. But in order to get your gas safety register card (formly corgi card) you have to work for someone for a period of time to gain experience. Getting your ccn1 etc isnt difficult (well shouldnt be) its getting your card to be able to do work off your own back thats harder. To renew ccn1 + boilers,cookers,fires cost me £900 with the vat, to do it from scratch is going to cost probably 2-3 times that.
Having said that there is money to be made buts its a different ball game to fixing whitegoods!

I did my CCN1 AND CKR1 at a place in Blanyre, Lanarkshire it was called GASCERT i think.

phone gas cert they said i have to give ma buisness up an work for someone that does gas repairs to gain the exsperience an to get a portfolio of competence. of 150 hrs god wat a joke. must be another way? 😳

another monopoloy extracting money under the guise of safety
i agree there needs to be some controls but the cost means if you only do a small amount of gas work its not worth it

yeh robbin bs 😳 meens its only a srew fit for fitting new hob wat ajoke a monkey cud to it .maybe a wee test if ther was any leaks an pressure test. but geese a break 2 grand an have to work for someone else wat a joke 😳

Its ALOT better than Corgi, the qualifying standards as mentioned in this thread are exactly the same as before gas safe but gas safe arent making money by selling my details to third party suppliers (as corgi are still doing) or forcing me to register new installs with them as Corgi were, only yesterday I was sent a “unsafe procedures manual” for free (£19 from Corgi), The gas safe register also has a maximum profit amount set so they cant become a cash cow like Corgi did.Re: gas appliances

Its a bit more complex than that I’m afraid,
-Pipe sizing
-pressure loss
-ventilation requirements
-working pressure
-siteing requirements
-requirements of other appliances in the room you are working in or may notice while working in the house.
Remember if you have to relight a boiler and it has blatant faults on it that you dont notice, you were the last gas engineer to see it if anything goes badly wrong before any other gas engineers visit, whether you worked on it or not.Re: gas appliances

Exactly its not just about connecting a pipe to a hob. If you want to work on gas then you have to follow the rules e1 else has to be it tedious thats the way it is. Speculate to acumulate if you feel the risks are loaded against you in making any money from the intial investment and finding someone to go get some experince with (work for them for free) isnt possible then you dont do it. Despite working with gas, domestic and commercial for over 27 years, because I have started up on my own, i am treated by gas safe as if i just left college.
i am on probation for 3 months ( just been extended further 3 months ), have to notify every piece of gas equipment i work on, regardless of wether the gas is disturbed ;and for the privelege i have to pay something like an extra £200 this year on top of the ridiculous fee they charge already because i am “new ”
i have had to put their e mail addy in spam as i am sick to the back teeth of getting constant selling from them, and now they have started ringing me to do the same.
i thought corgi were bad – this lot leave them standing !Re: gas appliances
not had them hassle me,however if it was still corgi you would have still had to pay nearly double for your first year 😥 i am sure you will find it better once your first year is over,i am back in a week for reassessment on my boilers,day off and i get to pay for the privilege 😉 just remember its gas. 8)
