KeymasterNo problem Benoit and I will do as you ask, all I was saying is that these things have a tendency to drag on when the lawyers get involved. I’ve seen it so often, even getting an exchange appliance at times can take months of bickering never mind something as complex as this.
Most manufacturers (IME of these things) would expect you to accept a replacement appliance and a box of chocolates for your trouble and no, I’m not kidding. I’ve even seen instances where the manufacturer KNEW the potential problems, didn’t bother to do a recall and still denied responsibility when it went pear shaped!
It was not intended to dishearten you at all, from what I’ve seen of it you have a sound case against the manufacturer in questions, all I was saying was that it may well take a fair bit of time to get anywhere with it. 🙁

Sadly, I’ve seen a few in my time and sworn to secrecy on many of them. 😉

ParticipantI have just sent you the word by word report of the forensic scientists. Happily.. the reason why it took so long to type is that I got waylaid by
BBC WATCHDOG.. who after I visited them this morning… look like they are taking up my case. They are meeting me at my house in the morning to go over the entire story…
Let me know what you think of the report… and I have already told them about UKWG website 🙂

I’ve just read the report and it’s pretty conclusive that the fire originated from within the appliance. Given the age of it that can only have been from some kind of catastrophic failure IMO with the evidence to hand, but I’m no lawyer by a long shot.
If I were in the manufacturer’s shoes I’d settle the claim somehow to save on the negative publicity and the time that this would end up costing, but that’s not up to me. In the end I have my suspicions on the tactics that will be employed, but I’ll shut it for now.
UKW will not name the manufacturer or the claiments details until such times as this story is within the public domain or Benoit requests that we do so.
Benoit, thanks once again for the trust, information and the promotion, it is appreciated.

ParticipantThank you K for this.
This whole thing is such a nightmare but having BBC Watchdog visiting the house tomorrow and advertising on tonight’s show that they are doing my story next week helps me to believe that others will see sense soon.
I am not asking for much.. just to get my family back together in our home. I have lived in my house for 20 years… I have never ever had a fire so it hurts me so much that this product, newly purchased from what I believed was a company I could trust.. manufacturered by a company I believed I could trust could cause us so much devastation and be treated in this way is beyond me.
K I hope the manufacturers see sense because I truly would like to think their treatment of this case is a one off. I loved the look of my new tumble dryer and the same brand washing machine which was purchased a week before the dryer. I honestly would love to be confident to buy their brand again but right now.. I am not and I am not alone with feelings am I?

Just a reminder that this case is supposed to be on Watchdog tonight.

No news of it on the Watchdog site yet.

ParticipantI will be appearing Live also on the show.
I have just had a call to say that the manufacturers are trying to say that the control dial was in the off position and therefore could not have been on at the time of the fire.
CLUTCHING AT STRAWS OR WHAT.

CLUTCHING AT STRAWS OR WHAT.That doesn’t mean that the dryer still didn’t “time out” after the alleged fire took hold.
Will watch with interest, I hope it all goes well for you.

ParticipantThank you for that Rudolph… that is so true. 🙂
BBC are now getting a lawyer instead on me being live on air… probably worried about how I will react if they say something stupid.

ParticipantFurther to this.. I am going live on air now.. but will have the support of a lawyer.
Hopefully.. we can make some serious progress tonight. Wish me luck.

KeymasterWell done Judy neither Costco or Whirlpool came out of that too well at all. Maybe you’ll get some results now, best of luck with it all.

ParticipantThank you guys… I just could not believe that the best they could come up with was that the machine was in the OFF position. I was glad in the end that I did not go live… I don’t know how I would have handled it after that comment. Anyway.. shame they cut so much out of the show. I was hoping they would celebrate UKWG but I suppose that may have been interpreted as advertising. 🙁 Anyway.. let’s see what happens tomorrow… so far.. I have had no further comments raised.
I am off to spend the night with my eldest son. I will respond to any further comments tomorrow.
Thank you everyone

KeymasterFor those that missed the article on Watchdog it is now availabel as a compressed .wmv file in the downloads section. Fair warning for those not on broadband that it is a 4.5Mb file to download and it’s reported as the wrong size there for some obscure reason. 😕
It’s also well compressed so the quality is not wonderful but adequate.
