I mean , slide your finger from back to front inside the drum along the side of each of the drum ribs at the angle of drum and rib.

as extra info..I have just tried to spin the drum fast by hand from inside , to hear any unusual noises but nothing ,

I have just done another wash cycle , quick was and moving it forward a bit (no clothes in) , when the speed picks up the noise comes in. its not noisy at low speed spin. just when the speed picks up.
Could there be something in between drums ? .. the running the finger along the inside of the inner drum ribs could only locate wire poking through the holes or am I missing someting with that ?March 1, 2007 at 11:08 pm #206069iadom

Wire??? there shouldn’t be any wire poking through anywhere. Wires from underwired bra’s are the second most common cause of drum obstructions after coins, can you not get hold of this wire and pull it out?Failing that it is time to ‘open the patient up’ 😉

sorry mate , what i meant was running the finger along inside of drum could only possibly locate wire poking out of the holes , but i have no wire , i am just wondering why do that- the inside of the drum is smooth , the only reason for doing that , I thought would be to locate anything sticking through the holes (but I have nothing ) .
It may have to be operated on..
the banging is on fast spin only.
If I where to bet on it , i would suggest something is out of balance for some reason ,March 1, 2007 at 11:20 pm #206071indespoint

I fear it is pointing towards a failed drum support, Even though you cannot pull the drum towards you it may still have cracked. If you have only done 40° washes then there is a very good chance it has fractured. I did a bearing change on a 17 year old Hotpoint last week, the drum support was almost like new, customer does a regular 60° wash with good quality powder or tablet. The following day I replaced a completely rotten drum support on a 6 year old machine, customer uses liquids and leaves the economy selected all the time.
This is an example of the damage that constant low temperature washes can do.

Used to change loads of them until they introduced the thicker front one, in fact they used to come as a pair for a long time.
Jim.
PS, don’t you mean left one when looking from right side?

Ok , thanks for the advice , yeah mostly i do 40 degree washes..
drum supports…are they the mountings that the drum sits on ?(those kind of engine mountings crossed with hydraulic rams – to use a car analagy) Ok this is looking more like a job for someone who knows what they are doing , or do you think its possible for an amateur ? actually…I just thought, it cant be the mounts under the drum, as why would the wash temperature effect these , i guess its internal supports . how much do you reckon for an independent person to do the job… I think you may have ‘cracked’ it though …..thanks.March 1, 2007 at 11:39 pm #206075spinnerbell

It is not that difficult for someone with the correct tools and the ‘knowledge’, the outer drum has to be opened up and the complete inner drum removed. The condition of the heating element and the bearings will need to be checked carefully, a new outer drum seal should also be fitted. The best thing to do is to contact a local independent either from recommendation or the link below. Costs and prices vary widely so it is best discussed at the time.
This article will explain the main problems that low temperature washes and liquid detergents can cause. Also has a picture of the drum support attached to the drum to give you a better idea of its location.

Dig out the instruction book, you know, the one that got stuffed in the drawer the day you got the machine that has not seen the light of day since. 😉 If you do manage to find it read the section about doing a maintenance wash.

Thats great advice , thanks very much for your time and help, The web is a great device for communication . 😀
I dont know how to get around the low temp. thing for the future though , funny that.. an occasional high temp wash cleans it out ? anyway , yeah i will contact a local repairer, its probably faster that way, i dont have the knowledge , although i did see a ‘haynes’ manual on washing machines in halfords the other day.
thanks all , for the help.March 2, 2007 at 12:02 am #206079iadom

Wash your mouth out Jim!!
No one does maintenance washes these days thats why there is all the brown gunge round the door seal and mildew spots on door seals too. mention it to customer and they just at you funny. i wonder if the makers of aerial realise what they are doing by saying turn down to 30 deg washes?
I’ve got a drum off an indesit W113uk in shed, plastic tank version with backplate. Drum support snapped on all 3 legs. -
