Hotpoint Belt Fitting Tool

Guys,

Can any of you offer me and advice? I’ve recently bought a belt fitting tool from Hotpoint, the 5600178. I wanted the more expensive one but Connect were out of stock.

I recieved it today but it comes with no instructions! I’ve got a belt to fit tomorrow and bought this based on the advice of Connect Distribution’s web site , but I’m totally lost. Any help would be appreciated.

Oh Yeah that one, instructions are easy….I doesnt work…on anything!

It works OK on most of the early WMA’s. Having placed the belt on the drum pulley, grab the belt with the cut-away/shouldered end and force belt toward motor pulley. Offer the tool under the pulley and twist and the belt hopefully will go straight on without too much swearing on your part! 🙂

this is for tumble dryers I find it works ok. the one for washers is 5600241 and even with the extansion I fitted to the handle its *******

there is a better one, works like a dream. C00142716 the one he said was out of stock. Worth waiting for IMO.

The machines that use the EL1860 belt are not too bad to do without any special tools. The belt seems to only just go round the drum when you first put it on but if you get the drum sitting directly on the motor and not located in the front or back bearings there is enough stretch in the belt to get it over the motor pulley with just your fingers. Now I’ve done a few I find them easier than the old jockey wheel models.

Personally the 1860 belts are s*** to fit and the belt fitting tool ie. the better one makes the job a breeze, trying to strech the belt with your fingers or screwdrivers is hard work compared with using the right tool.
On the vented dryers hotpoint recommend removing the right side panel ( looking at the machine ) slacken the front, drop the belt over the drum, insert the belt tool into the cutout on the base, engage the belt onto the teeth of the tool and pass it over and onto the motor shank, job done,

With WMA machines I use a cable tie, thread the belt over the motor pulley, bring it up over the main pulley, when its more or less in position on the main pulley set the cable tie over the belt and around the face of the motor pulley, now turn the pulley and the belt just pops on.

First call this morning = I’ve got a Creda TVR2 and the belt needs replacing……gets the weekend off to a good start? 🙁

I would offer to do it for you Martin but I’m about 600 miles north of you 😆 The job I find most time consuming on these Hotpoints is cleaning off the old gum and backing when renewing the front felt, especially in the bits hidden by the bearing pads. Often when the belt breaks it’s because the rear shaft has worn through and caused other damage/extra resistance to movement.

I didn’t realize that there were two belt fitting tools, i just knew about the crappy tubed one but thanks to having the part number for the better one i went onto connects website, saw a photo of it and made one this evening which i’ve tested on my hpt td and it works bloody marvelously. connects price £30+ my price £3 😀
