Re: Hotpoint / Creda tumble dryers not heating

we have had a few timers with welded heater contact hence not doing the cool down faze. And what about the condensers themselves? How many customers clean those and anyway? how? I for one would love to know.

The only effective way of degunging those is using a garden hose with a decent bit of pressure to blast them clear ❗

i agree the only way to properly clean condenser is to take out back and flush with hosepipe. Also hpt/creda are not on their own with the open door senario as the same thing happens with the crosslee dryers but of course it is a resetable stat but a pain when the dryer is built in and reset button is on back. Explain to the customer about opening the door they look at you stupid, i suppose justly so because 9 out of ten times they are waiting for the clothes to dry and cant wait long enough so keep checking them.

On condenser driers have found that in most of the ones i have been called to have had blocked condensors .Giving them a good wash through with a hose and probing with wire sorts things out.
Also if you drill a small through the back of the one shot stat in the center and push gently the stat resets.Usefull if at call miles away from base and no stats on board

Modifaction arrived. It’s replaced by a red spot stat which trips at a higher temperature.

Re: Hotpoint / Creda tumble dryers not heating

Don’t we have some sort of safety issue here? It’s a one shot device for a reason.

    There are six kits:

    1741124 – 85c operating/109c safety
    1701557 – 113c operating/120c safety
    1701583 – 106c operating/130c safety
    1701774 – 85c operating/120c safety
    1701896 – 106c operating/150c safety
    1702041 – 85c operating/109 safety

The first one is unique because the tabs stick up. The rest all have flat tabs. I can see some merit in fitting 1701896 instead of 1701583, as it gives greater leeway, but the point is surely that it will still trip under extreme conditions.

    Point to ponder I think.

    Regards,
    Chris.

As far as I know it is replaced and 10 degrees higher but I can’t confirm as yet. I am also assuming it is the same part number and once yellow spots run out you will get red. I will try to confirm.

    Andy,
Specifically, which kit are you on about? Can’t think of a yellow spot one at all…….

I think Andy is on about the washer dryer heater box stat which has just changed from a yellow spot to a red spot. 🙂

Part number 1605160 – red spot stat for the Hotpoint washer dryers. It now trips at a higher temperature.

Sorry Andy but now you’ve got me confused 😕

First off on this thread everyone was (I think?) talking and diliberating over ‘Condenser Dryers’ and all the various friggin t/stat kits available 🙁

Now you are referring to Hotpoint WD type t/stats, which are as you know, completely different. So, that confusion has been sorted, my question is :- Why would you need to eventually find out that Hotpoint have increased the tolerance of their WD stats by just 10 degrees?? What or how does that come about? and why should it make any difference I wonder?

Forgive me, but the Red Spot (or Yellow Spot T/stat) on a WD is simply that…a t/stat that regulates the dryer temperature. So why the need for it to ‘trip’ at a higher temperature?, and how or why would you want to know that?

I”m not being funny on this but really am fuddled as to the what, where and above all why? I am confident you will explain

Re: Hotpoint / Creda tumble dryers not heating

    No probs 🙂

It’s because they are tripping all the time – for no apparent reason. Some customers have had it trip 3 or 4 times. In my original post I did mention washer dryers though 😉

andy_art_trigg wrote:I’m getting loads of faults with stats cutting out with no obvious reason why. It happens with many washer dryers or tumble dryers .. Is anyone aware of a reason? Or are they just (as I suspect) crap? I’m expecting a modification any time soon, either to change it to a resettable stat or raising the cut out temperature.

I suspected that the cut out temperature needed raising and that’s what has happened.

The problem was that they are a one shot device and the dryer stops working when they tripped.
