Connections says that a conversion kit may be necessary with this motor,(presumably the plug) does someone know which machines this kit is needed for?
The machine I need a motor for is a WM63
Never used these before – always just bunged in a new armature but my stock is now zero and I am out of decent 2nd hand motors 😥
Thanks
Andy

The Qualtex ARM20 is the trade alternative to the 1603071 Armature Andy!
Where have you been…? Just switch the tacho magnet…£15… problem solved 😉

I think you need the spacers to fit the 5kg tank – plug should be OK. Dave’ll know – he knows everyfink 😀 .

The conversion kit is only required to fit the motor to the WM range etc where a GDA motor is being replaced. It has the new plug, washers etc for mounting. (ohh matron ).
But, if Masterpart have stocks of the 1603071 problem solved :D… until they run out 😉

Thank you gentlemen
When I realised that this armatures were going to disappear I bought a heap, but sadly they are all gone 😥 😥 (don’t get me started again)
Are the qualtex ones OK? I am a bit wary about non-gen armatures as i have had a lot of hassle in the past with them.
I don’t have an account with masterpart but I did’t know that anyone had stocks of these now, so that sounds OK.
Is Mr trent80 connected with masterpart (he seems to have gone offline)

Thanks Andy, but someone tells me they are £35 +VAT off Masterpart so I might give the Qualtex a whizz.

I ordered 2 off ARM20 armatures last week from Crum & Sons and was sent genuine 161498B ones. I don’t know if that was just Crums sending what they have to hand or if Qualtex are supplying gen. items as ARM20. ❓

I used to use Qualtex ARM 20’s many years ago, before Hotpoint started supplying separate armatures. I have one old 18370 that had one in more than 10 years ago that is still running fine. It used to be a bit of a fiddle fitting the new motor pulley with the two split pins but now it comes with the pulley fitted. I have rarely had an ARM 20 fail, although they did seem a little noisier than gen ones, the recent ones that I have fitted have been fine. Although I have always fitted gen when available, the ARM 20 is more reliable but it does not come with brushes.
In fact about ten years ago, the genuine Hoover Logic armatures had a period when they failed constantly. I fitted 3 to one machine in six months. When I spoke to the local Hoover engineer he confirmed that they had serious problems, and he had bought Qualtex armatures with the blessing of his supervisor to cure persistant problem machines.Had a slight problem with an ARM 20 last week, the threaded hole for the tacho screw was a fraction to large, a slightly larger screw sufficed, not seen any others like this yet.

Do it the hotpoint way mate. mark the tacho end of the plug, snip off the locating lugs and fit the same plug into the FHP motor making sure you have the tacho connections at the correct end. Works every time, and it’s very quick. The only other thing you need to do is to fit a spade connector to the earth lead.

I think it`s worth taking the extra 5 or 10 mins. to fit the correct plug and avoid any future confusion .

Let’s just say that Jimbo’s ‘tip’ is a good get-out if when you open the box of a new FHP Motor, there’s no plug kit in the box with it 🙁
Otherwise I go along with Bryan’s sentiments every time 😀
