ParticipantWent to a WF640 that was leaking at the front. Took the cabinet front off to investigate. I usually unscrew the interlock and leave it connected but for some reason this time I left it screwed on but unplugged its wiring. When I put the machine back together it was not locking the door. On investigation I found that I had plugged the interlock connection block back wrong. There is a hook moulded in the plug which I had lined up with a corresponding window in the interlock socket flange. It turned out that like this only 2 of the wires were connecting to the interlock, which would accommodate a 4 way block. On closer inspection I could see that the tits on the plug that prevent it from being plugged in the wrong way had been cut off. I am the first person to work on this machine from new so I think what must have happened is Hotpoint had run out of the correct plugs and modified some different ones to fit. The only way I could determine how to plug in the block was to dismantle the interlock and find out which connection went just to the heater ie the neutral. Luckily I knew from experience the neutral wire is black (unlike Bosch who use 3 orange wires for the interlock!).

Participantahh, well
you see, there are two interlocks for that machine
the early, red coloured one, and the new white one
when you replace them, you need to remove the pip on the plug, then turn the plug around
sometimes, with a genuine interlock, theres a leaflet in, explaining this
so, chances are, its had a new lock, or of course, hotpoint started doing it at factory level
maybe the customer forgot theyd had the lock changed?

The machine would not work if you put the plug in the other way round though 😕

The best way to remember is, old style interlock, wires from plug face the cabinet front, new type the wires face into the machine.

I still don’t understand what you are getting at. Are you saying that it was built with a wiring harness to take the white interlock but was fitted with a red one so the plug had to be modified to suit? I just looked at a WMA machine in the workshop and tried both types of interlock onto the wiring plug. In both cases the hook part I mentioned lined up with a window in the interlock socket skirt. This is how I normally know which way they go but on the machine today this hook does not line up with the window when correctly located so there is no positive locking of the plug in the interlock.

Participantok, ill try and be more specific!
on the wma machines they had a red lock
no problem fitting them , they were keyed, couldnt get it wrong
the wf machines were different and had the white lock… that was keyed too, only it was made to fit the wma machines, and the idea was to fit the white lock to a wma type, but remover the tab and reversre the plug… that way, only problem is, it was no longer keyed
the principals the same.. the red lock will fit the wf types, only again, you have to remove the pip and reverse the plug
the red lock isnt the original lock for the machine
is that better?

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint Interlock Warning
The machine left the factory with the red interlock fitted.

Participantthen that might explain why the pip was missing

I wish I hadn’t bothered with this thread now, everyone seems to think I’m either clueless or making up fairy tales 🙁 I just thought it might save someone from blowing up a module by plugging in the interlock wrong but to hell with the lot of you.

Hey, I appreciated your efforts…… I have been scratching the old plumage a few times, even with the intruction sheet!
