ParticipantHi all,
The wife loaded soaking washing into the dryer when the filter clogged on the washing machine and turned it on!
She can’t remember if the machine was turning but there was a burning smell and she turned it off. Now the drum turns but doesn’t heat. I tried resetting the thermostats on the heating element but had no joy. Bought a new heating element kit and thermos from espares website (ES1780421).
Installed but still not heating. Everything appears to be getting power and has continuity, is there anything else I need to check?
Thanks again.

ParticipantHi Dave,
Yes I’ve tried, I don’t think it has sensor drying. But tried standard cotton and regular timed drying.
The heater is getting power as I’ve tried a non contact voltage indicator. I didn’t know if there was another reset switch anywhere that I was missing in the dryer.
Thanks.

Moderatorwell for some reason the tech site knows about it but there is no tech for it at all
its it board controlled or a mechanical timer ?
Dave

ParticipantHi Dave,
It must be board controlled as I don’t see a mechanical timer. It has a 2.3kw heater as stock, but compatable heaters are only 2.05kw with the model number. Maybe that’s the issue.
https://parts.hotpoint.co.uk/categor…BGKUK?search=1Would the front thermistor stop the heating element from kicking in? Not that I can see one.
Thanks.

Moderator1 did the connections of the new element look the same as the old unit
2 lowering the element power wont cause any problems
3 have you checked the water float in the pump housing ?
4 if it has got a front NTC then yes as with every temp measing device it can alter thingsDave

ParticipantHi Dave,
Yeah the connections were the same.
I did clean out the float and pump area, saw this advice on another thread and went back to double check it wasn’t engaged.
I found the front ntc and it looks OK, reading ohms etc, but I’ve just ordered a replacement just in case.
I’ve traced the power connecter from the dial (programme) selector to the ntc at the front and the power to the heater. Hopefully if the ntc is fried it won’t allow heater to engage and a replacement will fix it.
Thanks.

ParticipantHi,
Well still no luck, contacted hotpoint who said I needed c00506093 which I bought which had the same heater in as the replacement which didn’t work.
Tried changing the front thermistor too, no luck.
Anything else to try before giving up?
Thanks.
