ParticipantHi Dave,
Nothing looks overtly damaged. The dial for programme selector has two wires, one goes to front thermister and the other to the heater. I got a good shock off the front thermister so that’s definitely getting power 🙂 the heater has continuity across the fuse and non contact pen lights up when machine is running too.
Not sure what else to do.
Thanks.

ParticipantI assumed it was on the front where all the dials are? Struggling to get the front fascia off at the moment.

Moderatorsome of the later machine have one panel but all others have 2
which ever one it is you need to find where the element leads connect that all 3 of them plus stats then take the board out and look fo damage
after all you said there was a burning smell and we need to see if its damaged the board

ParticipantI’ll try and get access, the fact that I have power going to the thermister and heater must mean it’s OK? Are there any other things that could stop the heater. Does the capacitor do anything related to that?
August 4, 2021 at 8:27 pm #478122electrofix
Moderatorall you have proved is there is mains voltage on the thermistor. since the thermistor is a low voltage device it means nothing as the voltage across it are what is important. Thermisters are part of electronics often working on 5v or so. if it had 240 across it there would be a bang. If its a thermostat then thats different.
heaters need a live and a neutral to work and the board may switch either one. so if neutral was switched then the heater would be live but until the neutral arrives it wont workDave

ParticipantHi Dave,
Sorry, you must be banging your head against the wall! I’ll check back on once I get access.
Thanks.

ParticipantGot the board off, nothing is jumping out as being damaged.

ParticipantWhere the wires from thermostat and heater plug into pcb there is continuity. How do I test that the heater is getting everything it needs?
August 4, 2021 at 10:07 pm #478127electrofix
Moderatorwell all we know now is the relays are not closing to energise the heater
we dont know if is a faulty relay, thermister or a board fault

ParticipantNot sure if this is correct, but my heater (original) has only one connection going into it, does it look right?

ParticipantI’ve tried 3 heater units as complete kits with fuses/thermisters without heating working.
Regarding the picture – I don’t recall that other plug being in, seems weird to be loose.

Moderatorno it wont work like that
plug that in is the thermistor. you should het a reading on a meter in the K ohmthe other 3 are the heater elements and you should get low ohms readings across any one of the 3
