    So does that other plug need to be in too? Or I move the red plug over?

    both plugs need to be in and they should only fit in one position due to lugs on the plugs

    Thanks Dave, I feel a fool. The second plug part was so loose that it must have disconnected before I took the side panel off when pulling at the heater wire. The original element works now – reset the fuse…
