u wont.. its a numbers game, as penguin says, 7 components less+shorter belt = cheaper product
we see the end product, and their own counter-productiveness.. how can saving, say £5 justify 8 belt changes in 12 months…

I think the phrase we’re looking for is false economy.
belt £8.45pulleys £4.03 each
belt £8.11
So all it takes is one belt change and you hit hit the cost of the parts you’ve done away with by not fitting pulleys. On top of that the cost of getting the engineer there if belt goes with in 1st year.Forgot to add on cost of belt fitting tool £34

HI 🙂
Just to let you know Ive orderd the shaft and belt and the shaft has come as a kit Part no 1703080 V4 shaft kit comes with
drum front seal
another drum seal
shaft
rear bearing
4 plastic bearings
m10 washer plus destruction leaflet
wouldnt it be a lot easier to just make the belt a little bit bigger :rolls:

Mark 🙂I forgot to mention all the extra goodies, you should change the rear seal at the very least, it is thicker and pushes the drum away from the back panel together with the washers.

So it looks like the M10 washer is important ❓
I have this job to do on Tuesday to a VTD00P and the kit (HPT1703080) I had delivered by CDS is missing the M10 washer. Will have to see if I can find one. How thick does it have to be ❓

Not thick enough to prevent you getting the circlip back on the shaft. If you can refit the clip you should be OK.

Servis were the first to do away with Jockey pulleys and use a shorter belt[as far as I know] over 20 years ago on the slimline dryer and that worked ok. It was no trouble to fit, and the tension wasn’t as much as on these Hotpoints. If I remember correctly you could adjust the tension with a sliding motor fixing. I’ve always wondered why the mfrs persevered with jockey pulleys after that, as Servis showed there wasn’t any need for them. They’re a part prone to failure anyway and as penguin said cost money to fit originally .It’s just Hotpoint that haven’t got the design right.

Not fun trying to stretch a belt 55mm to fit on a motor. If the length of the belt was increased by 25mm there would still be enough tension in it and it would also eliminate other problems encountered.

Exactly. I’ve got my first belt change on a VTD00 to do tomorrow. Not looking forward to it after having read all the postings about them!

Sorry Wilf, but the instruction leaflet that came with this kit makes no mention of leaving off the M10 washer.

leaflet no 8200754 supersedes leaflet no 8300182
on all models prior to the VTD range (may 2004) the 2mm spacer washer should be fitted between the collar and bearing support bracket
I took that to mean dont fit it on VTD’s although I always used to. How’s it read to you?wilf
p.s. fitted a kit last Friday there was no washer in the kit and none on the original.still worked ok

Thanks for that Wilf.
The leaflet that came with my kit is #8300196 and supersedes leaflet #8300191. So I am confused more than ever now. I have got this job to do in the morning and I wil try with and without the M10 washer to see which is best.March 19, 2007 at 8:50 pm #205795helo_75

you’ll only really stop em scraping if you change the drum assy, that has a shaft attatched to it, and has a greatly differing rear profile
ive done loads, and they all scrape sooner or later, save some money and time and fit a new drum!!!

Can you give us the part number of the drum assy with the different rear profile, please ?
