ParticipantHi 🙂
A friend has this machine and its just 14 months old and the rear drum shaft has worn to a point were its snapped and the belt has also broken.
Ive replaced a few belts on some of these T/D before and they are extremely tight to fit so its no wonder its broke the shaft 😕 does anyone know the part numbers for the belt and shaft also is there any modifications to do to drums on these ❓
Thanks Mark 🙂February 27, 2007 at 8:12 pm #205768iadom

hi the replacement drum has a modified profile and gives approx 10mm more clearance at rear to cabinet this cures all the scrapping probs with the drums there is also modified drum for the condenser driers. regards gazza

THe drum kit for the VTD is quite a sensible price at around £34.00 + vat list price, however the kit for the CTD is almost £76.00 + vat 😯

The mod is mainly to stop the drum touching the back panel, the belt is still as tight, what on earth was wrong with jockey pulleys, they have done the job perfectly for more than 40 years. 😥

Using the stretch belt gets rid of a least 7 other components……. Money, it’s all down to money.

the drum comes as just that.. a drum (different profile) and a shaft
usually, u’d need the front supports(part of shaft kit), cos they were modified too, oh, and a belt, that was modified as well

I know on the vented dryer they changed to a 9 rib belt as opposed to the 6 rib one.
Question 1 ; If the belt is now 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} wider does it mean it will last longer before it snaps again?
Ok I know i work for the company but to me the belt should have been lengthened. The belt has to be stretched 55mm so it will fit on the motor shaft. The rear bearings wear and snap drum shafts and wear front bearings away due to the tension in belt. Not rocket science is it. Actually its one of newtons laws.March 1, 2007 at 9:56 pm #205780helo_75
ParticipantRe: HOTPOINT VTD20G T/D
nope.. the belts arent any better
like u ive fitted loads
ive took to fitting the 1701658 belt on them, and it seems to last longer
NOTHING will stop these dryers breaking down

Like i said helo its not rocket science if a belt snaps because it has to be stretched 55mm something has to give. The belt you fitted in place of 1703666 is a better belt. I know a few engineers who fit them. If the belt was only streched 25 mm it would not cause the problems and there would still be enough tension to drive drum quite merrily.
Question; How do you get the powers to be to reliase this fact? -
