Participantwondering if anyone can help with more info on this model. i have got 2 machines with the same reported problem. hotpoint wdl 520 washer dryer, they are not drying properly after about 3 hours in the cycle. i have spent 6 hours in total checking over the machine and it appears everything is working fine, water inlet, pumping out ok, heating ok and the dryer heat circulation fan is working ok. any feedback with some insight into this model would be much appreciated. t.i.a.

Have you checked for fluff build up in the condenser? There is not that much to go wrong on these dryer systems.

thanks for the reply. where is the condenser? is it on top of the tub? where the heater and blower fan is? if so, yes i have checked it and its all clear. unless i have missed somewhere for the usual place to block, i cant seem to find the problem.

I’m not familiar with that model but usually the condenser is a plastic moulding that goes from the fan area at the top of the machine to feed into the back or side of the tub fairly low down. In such cases I would remove the condenser and wash it out to remove any fluff.

There isn’t a removable condensor as such, the fan housing is mounted directly ‘into’ the drum.
There is a small filter at the back of the fan housing that gets clogged. In fact I always remove the fine mesh from these. They have been completely removed on some modifications and put back again on later models.
Take the complete dryer box off the top and split it to clean around the fan and also clean or remove the filter at the same time.

Its not very big at all, it usually has a flushing hose connected to it but that another part that was removed, then refitted. :rolls:
It sits under the very back of the heater box, slotted into the top of the outer drum.

This is a totally Indesit designed dryer assembly, everything goes wrong with these, TOC’s, NTC’s, fans come loose, filters clog, elements fail for fun, they are just C**P.

if it helps. pilot error can sometimes occur!
all to often ive been out to a wdl***/wd*** where cust had selected the sunshine icon for drying. for some reason they think its the drysest setting for sensor drying, rather than no drying. worth a check! easy to test by running it empty for 10 mins on high heat with nothign on it for a timed cycle, does it then feel hot inside???

What I meant was, if there is drum rotation, air circulation, air heating, a suitable trickle of water to condense the water vapour and adequate pumping it will dry the clothes. Any of those functions can fail but it’s not rocket science to check them all.April 20, 2011 at 2:58 pm #349385iadom

thanks for both the replies. i have been back to the machine today and removed the gauze filter, it wasnt clogged much, but thought id remove it anyway. the other identical machine with the same reported problem was so ive been told operator error, they had it on the “sun” setting at the top of the dial.
i have taken all comments on board, and hopefully i find out tomorrow when she rings me to say what it is like after she has tested it.
i will keep you both informed, thanks again both of you.
although i wont be making anything on this one, (5 hours labour total excluding travelling time of approx 2 hours total of 3 journeys, lol) i will be more confident the next one i get.
both of you have a happy easter, thanks very much for the help. 😀

hi again,
after removing the filter, i asked the customer to try it again. she reported that it still isnt drying properly.
filter removed, element working, fan turning, drum moving, pumping out, water coming in. she set it to go for 1hr 30 mins.
this one has me completely baffled.
i tried it for ten minutes before i left and could feel the heat in the dishcloth i tested it on.
she said she only put two small towels in it and they were quite wet after 1 hour 30 mins.
just wondering if there is something electrical intermittent fault, not working when its a bit through the cycleApril 25, 2011 at 1:34 pm #349388gandh1

i just cant see how that could be the case. is it possible the board has become corrupted and only running on a low heat, the other thing to check is which dryer programme is she using? the wdf740a in the shop here has 3 drying progs – 11,12 and 13. has she tried all 3?
also did the 2 towels get washed by hand/spun at a lower speed than her normal laundry, which will obv therefore affect drying lengths
