Hi, My hotpoint WM52 first edition seems half dead, load machine with clothes select cycle E, machine fills with water then tumbles for a short while then stops, I can hear it clicking away but it will not go onto next cycle, it works fine on a spin cycle if I move the dial onto a spin cycle, it just will not wash, should mention that I have changed the brushes and the motor seems fine.

u tried the heater?
first thing to do is select economy option, and see if it goes through
if it does, its the heater, if not its the timer

Hi, I didnt think this machine had an heater as it has both hot and cold feed, but then again im no expert.
well, it does!
it will stop while it reaches requires temp, if you activate the economy button, it will over-ride the heat cycle and wash with the water thats in there

A WM52 will eventually complete a full cycle even if the heater is faulty, controls will advance out of heat position to next part of cycle if no rise in temperature is sensed within approx 20 minutes.
Often the only way a customer knows something is wrong is if they get poor wash results on heavily soiled washing.
The machine should continue to tumble during the heat phase, albeit with reduced tumble time.Jim.

Hi, thanks for your quick reply, so if the machine will wash through the economy cycle you say its the heater that may have gone. next question where is the heater located and is it as easy as the brushes to replace.

The heater is located behind the front panel. At six o’clock, inserted into the outer drum front. It is quite difficult to remove the old heater. The best thing to do would be to access the heater and test it for resistance/continuity before attempting to change.
When you said you advanced it to spin, have you tried it on the rinse & spin cycles, what happens if you do that?

Hi, Jim just tryed machine on economy and half load at setting E it managed to do all the cycles and stopped at the last empty and final spin, waited over 20 mins for it to do something water sill there in machine.

Getting to the guesswork stage now. It could even be a faulty armature within the motor or badly seated brushes, you did release them fully by lifting the small tag on the back I hope.
Pop them out again and check that the ends of the brushes are nice and shiny.

Hi Again, I cannot see any rinse hold or crease guard on the machine. ok I have now clicked the dial one notch and it has emptyed and done the final spin. As for the brushes i fitted them new today I did release the brushes but not by liffting a small tag as I did not see one, just a gentle pull released them But I did notice that when I shoved the brush back into the holder it stayed back as it was before I pull them out so I pull the brushes out again then fit them into the motor.

The first picture shows a pair of ‘genuine’ Hotpoint brushes. The tag that needs lifting is in the small brass section that is visible along the slot on top of the brush holder.

Ref to my last reply, just taken the brushes back out to check if the brushes was sprung out as they should be, all seems ok with brushes not stuck in now replaced back, just put new load in machine with setting at E on normal wash and normal load, will post result of what happens if it stops again or completes the full wash cycle. would like to say thanks to you two guys for your input so far.

final result, stoped at same place on normal wash as it did on the economy wash, reached last rinse stage filled with water then tumbled a few times then stoped, waited ages for it to start again by itself but no joy. clicked dial on one click machine started to empty without finishing the rinse cycle and started final spin then finnished. rinse cycle knackered ?
