I’m getting a taste for fixing washers after doing the bearings on a Servis. Yeah I know, I must be crazy, but I enjoy fixing stuff. Nothing like repairing something and seeing it working again.
I’ve just been given this machine with a “doesn’t drain” fault. I thought it’d be simple and sure enough, a foreign object jammed in the pump rotor.
There is however a slight “clicking” from the bearings when the drum is spun by hand. Looking on the forum it seems that these machines are notorious for bearing failure. Early signs on this one I’d say.
I’m tempted to get a kit and replace them. I know that the rear drum half was modified and is a preferable replacement but I’m not shelling out for that. If I can sort it for £20 or less then I’ll do it, otherwise it’s not worth it.
So, is this a goer, or is it going to cost more?
By the way, I think it is under 5 years old but I’m not bothered. This is purely for my own gratification.

You will need 1604770 – drum support and bearing kit (The shaft will be damaged) and 1603293 – tub half seal. spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will be able to get them for you, but £20 is optimistic, to say the least. It’s a tank out job, BTW – ghastly.

Ok thanks Penguin. Thought that might be the case. Looks like it’ll go to a friend to be run into the ground! He could always take advantage of the warranty.
By the way, motor sounds quite buzzy on this. Checked the brushes and they look fine. I think it’s the Bosch motor. Normal?Re: Hotpoint WMT05 Bearings
hi, just a pointer, but when you say the ‘drum clicks’ are you sure its the bearings & not a motor segment? have you tried to turn the drum with the belt off to see if it still ‘clicks’?

Yes I thought it might be a motor problem so did check it beltless. Definitely a drum noise. No play in them as yet and not noticeable when it’s running, but no doubt there is some damage there.

Unless there is a foreign body in the outer drum. 😉
‘Clicking’ is not something normally associated with bearing failure, steady build up of noise on spin, accompanied by rusty stains or signs of water leaks down the back of the drum yes, but not clicks.

Ok I might check this out further. Couple of questions: Is the drum behind the paddles “open” so that you can see into tub when they’re removed?
How do you remove the paddles? I can see they slide forwards and backwards and I assume they fit ito a keyway in the drum but I don’t want to force them for risk of damage. Thanks for the replies.Re: Hotpoint WMT05 Bearings
Use a thin bladed teminal screwdriver, slot it into the third hole from front and press down. When you refit the paddle be sure to raise up the small metal tag that you have depressed to release it. You can see into the heater well and drain sump, a good place for bra wires to collect.
PS. have you tried to get the belt back on yet. 😉

Right, I’ll give it a go later.
Yes got the belt back on with a lot of cursing and swearing!! Had the machine on it’s side and managed to reach top and bottom to feed it on.

yep, lost count of the number of customers ive seen with skinless knuckles, but they can get a bit upset when you get the belt back on in one go!

Well, seeing as you asked so nicely, :rolls: 😆 Lash the belt to the drum pulley with a large plastic bag tie, loop belt over motor pulley, turn drum from inside door to wind belt onto drum pulley, cut off bag tie, job done. 8)
