KeymasterBefore I get found out and get the “why didn’t you tell us” stuff going on…
Tomorrow morning, BBC Radio Scotland at about 10:15-10:30am I will be on the radio for some talk show.
All about appliance durability and all of that.
Several points to get across, let’s hope I manage it without dropping the ball or making a clown of myself… both of which are eminently possible.
I am a little nervous and I’ve got hours to kill yet. 😕

ParticipantGood luck, Im sure you will be fine. Try your best to get a bit of shameless advertising for the ISE washers mentioning RRP and availability. (just beware they may never have you back if you do!).

Came across it whilst driving to a repair, at first I thought you sounded a wee bit like Duncan Banantyne. It was a good listen tho.

That 63 year old fridge has everyone talking about the usual adage “…they’re not built to last these days!” At least the public at large has got wise to that fact but the Radio Scotland programme highlights that these days ‘energy saving’ rules in the mindset of most coupled only with purchase price. Longevity doesn’t come into the equation other than the generally recognised acceptance that “….they’re only designed to last no more than 5 years anyway!”
I dread to imagine how much energy that 63yr old fridge has consumed in its time? Add to that the original purchase price and the costing would no doubt be astronomical in comparison to it modern counterpart. The programmes conclusion being that overall there’s little benefit toward making white goods that last simple due to the insatiable demands of the buying public. They want cheap, energy saving goods that do the job and when they break down go out and buy a replacement, and on and on and on the merry go round we go……..

TBH I did it to get some key points across which, I hope I did.
1. Repairs are cheaper than you think from independents (£65 quoted) – job done
2. Energy saving is a load of tosh – job done although, not as well as I’d like perhaps
3. You can get appliances to last, you just have to pay for it – kind done
I’d like to have gotten more across but you have to go with the flow and the dude that was hosting, well, it was his first outing doing it.
