ParticipantThere seems to be a lot of posts on the public forums where visitors are blatently ignoring our professional advice and posting what could be dangerous activities.
Should these posts be deleted with a notice that UKW will not tolerate these practices? Future readers may then get a much stronger picture of what we are trying to achieve.
If it upsets anyone then tough!… I don’t think we want them on the site anyway…

On many occasions this is done by us Bob, if you find any future examples before we do, then do please PM any Moderator so it can be dealt with. 😉

The ideal scenario I agree, but unlikely to affect future posts, as many never heed advice or warnings thus requiring constant vigilance.

Lets hope that Chandy reads the scrolling html and takes the hint. 😉
I’m sure he is Frank Spencer reincarnated. 👿

Hats off to Chris and Ken for handling the situation in a professional and polite manner.

Fear not GB, sooner or later another one like him will grace our forums if he doesn’t. 🙄
It’s about time our friend from Finland gave us some grief isn’t it? :rotl:

Meh 🙁
I’ve got a great deal of apathy about posting in the public forums now. Every time I have a look, it’s freeloaders with crap machines 🙁
Or am I just too cynical?

Such is the nature of the internet I’m afraid. 😕
There’s an awful lot of people out there that are, as you say, freeloaders who want all the help for nothing in return. I’m afraid that there’s little to be done about them in the main as they’ll just toddle off to DIYnot or whatever and try there as well, fumble about perhaps causing further damage then often decide it’s not worth the effort and buy a new one.
What would you do on a £200 machine if you worked out it required an £80 module?
That’s what they’re trying to work out I think, whether a repair is viable or not, without spending money to do that. All we can do is advise as professionally as possible within reason.
And that whole debate crops up again and again and I see it like this…
In a month we get in the order of about 100-300 posts made asking for help in the forums. Many are just a waste of time and the appliance is scrapped I’d bet.
Counter to that, we get over 500 calls a month to repairs@, sometimes that figure touches 800 in a month, obviously from people who do follow our advice.
So, IMO, the odds are massively in our favour and people are listening to the advice we give. I’d also say that, when they realise that it’s not just changing a belt or a set of carbs, that they are swayed towards a repair. When that happens the professionalism shown is obviously pushing people towards using the repairs@ system.
Now, you tell me, is that a bad thing?
K.

Not at all, and as you say the simple statistics in favour of Repairs@ is undeniably in our favour as repairers. Even the ‘freeloaders’ who have found benefit from this site (for nowt) will return some day. Maybe even they will contact Repairs@ or even heed our advice and buy better next time for our greater benefit? …Who knows?
Meanwhile we will stay as vigilant as possible to ensure “idiots” don’t run amoke around here by applying a bit of tactful moderation as always 😉

I like those stats 🙂
And I remember a long time ago (bout 6 months) that somebody (Kenny) told me, that one of this websites main purposes, is to show the public that we are professional people doing a professional job; not a bunch of cowboys. Even if they get nothing else, the freeloaders can see that!
It’s just when I see the word Indesit, I feel a big wave of apathy 🙁
How about a new forum? ‘If your machine is an Indesit/Servis, post here’ Then just let me and Byran answer the posts 😈

But then, on occasion, it’s all worthwhile:
loki wrote:This is a very quick but huge thankyou to “Dave Conway, Dave Quinn, Penguin 45” and everyone that offered me advise and the very rapid response to my posts.
It is rare to find help on this scale and such a speedy delivery service (also very reasonably priced parts too).
Needless to say my oven is fixed and we all sat down to a long awaited roast dinner.
So once again a huge thankyou from me and my family, keep up the good work.
Cheers Daniel, Sam, Hannah and Stacey.
One happy punter, who bought his part from us.
Chris.

Yes Chris , very nice of the chap to post back his appreciation but I`m sure most of us get the same thanks several times every day for a job well done.
Don`t want to be contraversal but I personally don`t think in any way it makes up for the ones who take the piss. I guess we`re all different.Bryan
