I tipped it on the side and some of the water ran out and then when i put it back upright the water drained away……so i put it to rinse and it filled then did nothing…….any ideas?

Thanks for your reply, on closer investigation in the daylight, it appears that the water in the tray the dish rack sits on is empty, but when I pulled the filter out I could see there was water still left in there. So it is draining from within the dish washer itself but collecting under neath – the place where the filter goes.

Water below the filters when the machine is empty is perfectly normal.
Please try and describe the problem a little more clearly.

Thank you once again for your response. I’ll do my best to be as clear as I can.
I switch the dishwasher on and select a programme (all programmes have the same problem). It beeps twice and then I hear the water going in and splashing about after a short time. It then just stops doing anything and when I open it the bottom of the dishwasher is full of water. I then have to choose a different programme and as I hear the water drain through the waste pipe I then have to open the door and turn it off otherwise it just fills again and the water sits in the bottom of the dishwasher. When I open the door after I hear the water drain away there is no water at all in the dishwasher nor in the slot where the filter goes.
Many thanks for you time and patience.

Right. The first action on any programme is to drain, this is usually for one or two minutes. After that, you should hear water running into the machine. This should be followed by circulation………
However. If the machine doesn’t fill (water in the sump only) you should get the start lamp flashing in a pattern? This is a fault code which would help to solve this.

No it does fill and it gets splashed all about the inside by the spinning arms. There are not lights flashing……

Confused here, Kezza. You posted up that it filled and did nothing, then you tell us that the water is being circulated…… What is the problem?

Sorry to confuse you……….it beeps twice then it starts, I hear the machine fill, the water splashes around inside……….THEN it stops and does nothing else, no error lights, no beeping just nothing – it doesn’t empty, the water remains in the bottom and only empties when u open the door, select a different programme, but I am back in square 1 when it has done its initial fill/splash about.
Thank you for taking the time to read these posts Penguin, I really do appreciate it!! Also I really don’t mean to confuse!
Thanks once again

Oh dear. So it gets started, runs for a while and then just “blacks out”? No flashing lights, just dead? If so, you probably have a computer failure. If the computer goes off, obviously there’s no self-diagnosis from the error code system.
There are two versions of this machine – one made by Bosch, one made by SMEG (Yes, I know it says Whirlpool for Ikea on the front….). They are both quite decent machines, so probably well worth getting repaired. Integrated slimline machines are not cheap to replace (unless you buy some of the Chinese rubbish which is around at the moment).
Use the spares@ link below for a UKW engineer in your area.

Thanks for that, the two lights furthest right stay lit, and so does the programme that has been selected, it just does nothing after the initial fill/rinse. Any ideas how much this will cost to fix?
Thank you very much for your help and advice.

Have a look down the edge of the door, there should be a number starting with 8 – post it up and we should be able to work out which version you’ve got and go from there.

You’ve got the SMEG one, and it’s not a recognised code. Try this, it may work, it may not.
Switch the machine on and within 3 seconds, press the start button 4 times. If it works, lamps 1 and 5 should light. Switch off, count to 10, switch on and select the prewash programme and let it run. You may have to try this several times before it works.
