ParticipantI have a DIF 04 dishwasher. It starts on any of the programs and then stops, with flashing lights. The error depends on which programme.
So we have had the on/off and normal lights flashing, or the on/off and eco lights flashing. The filters are cleaned, and the machine is pumping water in and out. So, is it control unit, temperature sensor, or heating element? Or something else?

Its best to give the flashing lights by number from left to right if possible.
Light 2 flashing is supposed to be valve or turbine faulty.
Light 4 flashing is much more likely as it is a no heat fault. This is a very common cause of trouble on these low budget, poor quality appliances. It could be the heating element or the control PCB, both fail with frightening regularity. The only way forward is to check the heating element for continuity, resistance and insulation and if that all checks out then its likely the PCB is faulty. Sadly this machine has a PCB that needs to be programmed with a smart card and card reader. 😥
Of course you could do the sensible thing and invest in something better, it won’t be difficult. 😉

OK, thanks for the response.
The 1st light flashes (the on/off) then either no. 3 or no. 5 depending on wish wash it goes on.
If I test the heating element what sort of resistance should I be getting? What shoudl I be checking for conitunity and similarly for insulation?
In terms of changing to a new dishwasher…welll that will depend on the outcome of this one!
Thanks.

The error codes are given by the On/Off light flashing together with one or more of the first four lights. Light five is not used for error codes. Eco light is #4 BTW. 😉
Light 3 is a thermistor/module fault. might be best to stick it on again and verify just which progamme light is flashing.
The thermistor is hard wired to the PCB in any event and as mentioned above needs to be programmed with a smartcard & card reader. The smartcard is around £12 and the card reader is between £85 and £95, thats on top of the £50+ for the PCB. 😥
Heater resistance should be 29.2Ω. If you get that reading then you don’t need to check the heater for continuity but it is always worth checking it for earth leaks via an insulation test.

OK, I know probably a daft question, but looking at the workings underneath – which is the heating element – is it connected to the 2 brown wires – access is not brilliant, and I can’t see anything obvious (but no doubt it is concealed).

Sadly the heater is integral with the main circulation pump housing on these beauties. 😥

Doesn’t get any better then! The picture of thepump is at http://www.4indesit.co.uk/cgi-bin/produ … path=52688
There’s 2 blue wires to one connector and 2 brown wires to another… but still not obvious which is the heating element!

The two brown wires go to the heater.

OK, heater replaced. Dishwasher now heats up and runs through a cycle and power light stays on, but light 4 (Eco) flashes – any suggestions now, please?

I did tell you this was a low grade piece of equipment. :rolls:
Light four flashing is ‘supposed’ to signify a no heat fault. 😕
As for suggestions, you don’t want to hear the truth by any chance, 😉 😥

Yes, I know what you said, and I was listening (!) …. so I wrote to Comet and explained that it wasn’t very old (2 years), said I wasn’t happy it’d broken down and that it wasn’t of satisfactory qualityas per the Sale of Goods Act, and they kindly sent someone round to repair it yesterday…replacing the heating element.. .. heated up the water but the light still flashes… so I think I better phone them up again….. and we’ll see what happens then!

Perhaps Indesit group products should get special exemption from the Sale of Goods Act. :rolls:

Hi Bornfree,
I have just encountered the same problem with the same dishwasher. 3 lights flashing and all that. I have disconected it, cleaned all the pipes and filters and yet it still stops just before the tablet dispenses.
I to bought my dishwasher from comet under 2 years ago. Have you managed to get anywhere with them???

Yes, they came and fixed it (replaced the heating element) – look at one of the posts above. I think they letter I used was either on the consumer association website, or the BBC watchdog website. They phoned me up the following day after sending the letter. I was much impressed! (In Comet’s service, before anyone picks me up again for having bought an Indesit in the first place!)
