ParticipantHi
My INDESIT IDE 1005 DISHWASHER is coming up with a “A08” FAULT CODE, what part do I need to replace please?
I have always used programme no4 but recently the countdown timer stops counting down anywhere between 18-2 minutes and continues to wash without completing the end of its cycle, I have to switch to another programme in order to drain the water out. I have now started to use other programmes which complete there cycle but at the end it comes up with error code A08 every time, can you point me in the right direction of which component is faulty and causing the error code please?
Regards

The code A08 relates to a heater circuit problem..is the machine heating the water?

Yes the water is piping hot with plenty of steam when I interupt programe no4 by opening the door after a few minutes into its cycle.

It could be that the heater thermistor has come loose, and it isn’t correctly reading the temperature of the water,so the water should be very very hot..
To get at the thermistor you will need to unplug the machine from the mains, you then need to open the door and remove the screws from each side of the inner door skin, carefully remove the outer door panel (beware it can have sharp edges) and you will see the thermistor connected by two wires and it normally is held in place by a small clip this should be in close contact with the inner door skin to work correctly..

Thanks Martin, I’ll try that over the weekend and get back to you. Looking on the forum someone said that the thermister is soldered directly to the main PCB, I will continuity test it with a multimeter and determine if its perminantly open circuit or not and order a replacement if its faulty.

The ntc is not available as a spare, it comes with the new pcb. There are two,or three different ones a d at just short of £80 you need to make sure you get the correct one. Full model number, serial number and commercial code required to correctly ID.

Hi Martin.
I was just about to make a start on inspecting the washing machine, before I had even touched anything I just switched on the washing machine as normal and it’s now tripping the RCD to the house, which would indicate something more serious maybe or could this still be an issue on the main PCB that would cause such a massive overload on power up?

Washing machine? I thought you were talking dishwasher before, huh?

Sorry for the confusing Martin I was talking about the dishwasher, (I wrote washing machine by mistake my bad).
So after switching on my dishwasher it trips the house RCD, I have removed the timer control board and checked the components on the PCB but can not find anything obvious that looks faulty.
With the PCB removed I tried re-powering the dishwasher again and it did not trip this time but brings up a A99 fault code, I presume without the controller PCB installed no electricity will pass to the rest of the components in the bottom of the dishwasher?
My consern is that if I purchase a new control PCB it may only solve the origional issue I was having at the beggining and not the new issue of overloading and tripping the RCD? In your opinion do you think it maybe a faulty heating element that is drawing too much current by shorting out causing the house RCD to trip, or could it still be the controller PCB?

If any appliance trips the circuit breakers then the first thing that should be done is to isolate the machine from the mains and test all components and wiring with a megger or suitable multimeter for insulation faults, starting with the heater.
You should not change any parts until you have done this .

Hi Matin. So I have checked continuity for any earth leakages and I can’t find any, checked continuity of all wiring and it tests ok. I am reading 25ohms between the 2 contacts going to the heater, is that small impedance reading correct for the heater? If so I am at a loss other than suspecting the timer PCB again, as I don’t know what the other motors and electrical parts impedance readings should be? Should I send off the PCB to get it tested before I spend £80 on a new PCB that I may not need, or do you think that it’s something else I have overlooked?

Sadly your reply reflects a lack of proper electrical knowledge, you do not check for continuity when you are doing an insulation test. My advice would be to let someone with the requisite know how have a look at the machine rather than removing or changing parts that may not be faulty. If the machine has tripped your circuit breaker then you need to find out why.

Very unlikely that a board would cause the problem. As ladem said get someone in to do a proper insulation test on the appliance, will probably end up saving you money in the long run

Hi Martin
I borrowed an PAT test unit from work and checked the insulation and earth on the dishwasher and it passed, and I also checked the heater element contacts which measured 25ohms which is about the same as the heating element on my washing machine.
I am not a qualified electronics engineer but I have a basic understanding of electronics and I know how to use a multimeter, I just don’t know what all the components are inside the dish washer or what impedence each component should read that’s all.
After testing all components under the dishwasher and feeling confident that all parts looked and tested ok I decided to trust my gut and when back to the timer PCB. After close inspection I had a dry joint on one of the relays on the underside of the PCB, the relay was almost floating on one of its 2 contacts. So after running some new solder over the underside contacts I refitted everything an success it fired up without tripping the RCD and its running through the program without stopping!
Thanks for your time and advise gentlemen.August 26, 2013 at 3:10 pm #399800Andy jones

Good luck. Just see how it goes but if it trips again I would do another test on the heater, you don’t do a continuity test but an insulation test from the terminals to earth
