Just Hotpoint? What of Indesit and Ariston? I thought this was an Indesit COMPANY all product type gizmo? 😕
The blurb Indesit give says it’s good for washers, dishwashers and fridges too?

OK thanks for that. Going back to my original question though: –
Martin wrote:And after you’ve shelled out for one and plugged it into the back of an errant machine it doesn’t always show up the right error codes and often simply displays some random code just to test your patience and resolve?:?
I see Jim has been plugging one in with mixed results since he bought one. Eering on the side of caution I thought I’d ask you guys, that have one, your estimation of their worth in the grand scheme of things?

KeymasterLike I’ve wrote to you I will give here an answer from my point of view.
If you do not have proper tools related with those keys (the last model MK2- Bluetooth or Serial one) it didn’t worth anything because you cannot do much with it (neither to get into test program). 😡
But isn’t the case for earlier model (MK1- with “test” button) which can be helpful because:
1) it gives you the info about the last error (even if isn’t actual); 😕
2) it will check (after one repair job) and gives in very short time (in about 15 min. comparing with one entire wash circle) that the job is complete and well done. 😆 It will not help you on problems related with “user interface part” 👿 example is for “Low End EVOII” when machine do not turn off, or is not resetting or other problems like that…
But those keys with “test” button will not help you on Arcadia and latest cooling technology… (but in those “test program” can be accessed from user interface):evil:The keys are around 150euros and hard to obtain, but much harder is to get all other things that are needed to take complete advantage of this technology.
And from Smart card Reader/writer point of view, I can say that isn’t worth at all. This because every time when you want to write/programming you will need to pay for each corresponding eeprom smartcard (and are too many and can gives errors on writing and loose the info from card in case of malfunction).PS. Is almost the same like SAM case on Whirlpool— not too many things to do…. BUT for those, like me or perhaps Tony/EMW (I deduce that from his reply topics), who are doing specialized/dedicated repair work is worthy…

Baron has indeed pm’d me and thanks also to you other guys but (honest to god) I’m more confused than ever as a result. 😕
“connecting live & neutral and programming Bluetooth whatyouthingymajigs”
sorry guys you’ve lost me….tell you what…forget I asked…I won’t buy one and will just stick to the ‘poke & hope’ error code, dial spinning method”..
Cheers anyway, here’s to you brave souls!

Once again, I repeat, the smart card reader is really a waste of money and time. UNLESS…. you have access to lots of very cheap brand new unused Hotpoint/Indesit boards. Even then, you are going to have to buy a new card for every board you program. So, add it up. How much is a brand new unprogrammed board ? Then add on the cost of a smart card (you will need a new card everytime you program). Then add on the cost of buying the smart card reader. There are people who say that programming any old broken board will bring it back to life. Of course this is nonsense. 95{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the boards that we receive need other work (resistors, triacs, capacitors etc) and only then do we reprogram them. Then there are lots of variations on the boards themselves – differences in relays, sockets, triacs, edge connectors etc. It really is a minefield and we at EMW have spent hundreds if not thousands of hours on researching all the variations and compatibility issues. I know it sounds like a sales pitch, but really, order from us and it’s all done for you. Correct board, correct program on the eprom and fully tested. Misdiagnosed ? All it costs is £5+vat to send it back. A lot less cash and hassle than experimenting with smart cards when the odds will be hopelessly against you.

I for one appreciate the info you’ve given us Tony and won’t be messing about buying smartcards and readers, I leave that to the experts to sort it for me. 😉
On the HARDWARE KEY + LOW END ADAPTOR question though, do they work? Do they actually give a clue as to the error code or just throw up other errors to confuse you even more?
Is it worth shelling out £120 for blue and green flashing lights and an LCD display or should I just buy a pack of Tarot Cards from Toys r us?

😀 I’d love to see Mike I Hs face if Helo turned up and got the cards out. I’d even pay for a front row ticket :rotfl:

Thought I’d just bump this one into life again. 😉
I really would appreciate an answer as to their worth?
I’m sure a few have been sold and used since the thread first came to our attention and therefore long enough time for a realistic ‘field trial’ assessment from someone?…..Please? 🙂
