    Hello,

First of all, I’d like to say thanks for all the help this site has provided in the past: I’ve repaired my oven and dishwasher several times, which has not only saved me money but also impressed the wife !

I wish I could keep my 1999-vintage AEG 6040 going for ever. It has been used pretty much once a day for all that time and has rarely failed to produce clean and dry dishes. I’ve also managed to replace a couple of parts along the way to keep it working well, but I now require an obsolete part; the only place I could find one on the web listed it at nearly £ 300 but didn’t have one anyway.

I’m more or less convinced that I should buy an ISE dishwasher, but I have a few questions and would greatly appreciate your help. £ 900 will be a significant expense for me (though hopefully a bargain long-term) and I want to get it right.

I can’t seem to find any independent reviews – do you know if any have been written ? I’ve pretty much assumed that I will get clean and dry dishes, but it would be reassuring to know that someone has proved it.

How long does a standard wash cycle take ? Our AEG took about 90 minutes for a regular cycle, and it had a quick cycle that took about 40 minutes and would get plates and glasses clean if they weren’t too dirty to start with. I get the impression that those times are very short by today’s standards, but an indication of the ISE’s speed would be useful.

I’ve carefully read your information about the vagaries and subjectiveness of measuring noise levels. 44dbA for the ISE seems very low, but what I’d really like to know is: can I expect to be able to hold a non-shouty conversation in the kitchen while it’s running ? The fan drying system sounds very clever, but I’m worried that it will also be loud.

Finally: I live in SW London, and I’d like to see one before I buy. I’d be willing to travel some distance to do so. If I order it unseen, and it turns out that we can’t fit our plates and glasses into it…all those years of hard-earned brownie points, thanks to the repairs I’ve done myself, will evaporate. Instantly.

Sorry about the lengthy post, and thanks very much in advance for any help you can provide.

    Re: ISE dishwasher

I can answer some as I have the previous generation platform at home and have been using it in normal domestic use now for about four or five years.

Normal cycle time is about two hours, give or take.

Quick cycle I never use, I think I tried it once but the kids plates and cups with whatever concoction of sugar and dyes they drink didn’t clean up terribly well. I would imagine that, much like your AEG and most others, it’s fine for lightly grubby stuff but beyond that not all that much use.

One American customer coined the phrase of the same generation I have, “It’s the quietest dishwasher I’ve never heard”. TBH, in normal use that’s very accurate, most people (myself included) often have to walk up to the dishwasher and put your ear up to it to hear it working. So no, you won’t have a problem on that front.

The fanned drying so far as I am concerned is completely silent. Even right next to the dishwasher I wouldn’t know it was running a dry cycle, I have mistakenly opened the door when ti’s still been drying a couple of times not realising the dishwasher was still running when looking for stuff out it.

The baskets are really, really cleaver. I can easily fit in dishes from a meal for eight to twelve people at least with room to spare and quite often some of the other gubbins like salad bowls as well on one load.

Plates, it will easily take the normal 25cm standard EU plates but I think (although I don’t have any to test it with) it’d easily take the 27cm ones as they use them in the US.

Wine glasses, especially the really long stem large ones, go fine in the top basket at an angle if they are too tall to stand upright. Or, you can take off the plate rack in the lower basket and use that.

The new baskets are so clever I’ve had evil thoughts about getting a set and seeing if they will fit in mine as they are significantly better. 😉

But the best thing about it is, you put it on, it works every time and the results are great, it is very rare that something has to go back in and usually, when it does, it’s because some idiot (me usually) hasn’t put it in correctly.

    Re: ISE dishwasher

    Hello K,

Thanks for that quick and detailed reply. That sounds like everything I’ve hoped for, but I know the wife won’t let me spend £ 900 of our (mostly her) hard-earned without having actually put our plates in it. If I try and convince her otherwise, I’ll just get The Look.

Is there a straightforward way for me to find a local person who supplies them, in the hope that I can pay them a visit with some plates ? More or less any London post code, for starters.

    All the best

    Re: ISE dishwasher

I don’t know of anyone that would have one in stock as most of the guys just order a machine as required. 😕

    Re: ISE dishwasher

Oh dear. It probably seems unreasonable, but this could be a show stopper.

Is there a warehouse somewhere that I could visit ? (As I write that, it does seem stupid to suggest it as no one is going to want to break the seal on one just so I can put some plates in it.)

Might there be a friendly engineer in London who knows a friendly customer who might not mind a visit from a neurotic potential purchaser ? Any way for me to make contact ?

    Thanks

    Re: ISE dishwasher

The only person even remotely close that might, maybe have one is Bryan in Luton.

Other than that it’s Wakefield or Kilmarnock although there might be one in Manchester and another in the South West. 😉

Thanks for your reply. Luton might not be as bonkers as it sounds, depending on exactly where Bryan is. It’s only half an hour on the train from King’s Cross. How can I contact him ?

    Thanks.

    Re: ISE dishwasher

He’ll likely pipe up when he sees this.

Actually, Mark might have one as well round North London. Which I completely forgot about who will also likely chime in when he sees this. They’re both out during the day so might not see this until later.

    Re: ISE dishwasher

North London would be brilliant. I could go there more or less any time (not working at the moment), although I have a few commitments over the next couple of weeks. Looking forward to more details.

    Thanks

    Re: ISE dishwasher

Hi, yes we do have one in our showroom near to Stansted Airport….bad news though is its not great timing as I am away on hols (first one for several years I should add!) from tommorow (wed) until the 31st of August. It is a visit by appointment though and if you can hang on until I am back I would be happy to arrange this. You can gladly bring along some plates (clean ones!) to try but it is not connected so there will be no opportunity to hear it running. If you are still interested in seeing it then email me at: mark@angliaelectrics.co.uk and I will arrange as soon as I am able to do so.

Thanks for those replies. Tried e-mailing Mark but it bounced – I’ll be in touch the week of the 3rd to arrange a visit.

I am back now if you want to try again, just checked the above address and no problems there.

    Re: ISE dishwasher

Finally got round to contacting Mark and went to see him, plates in hand, today. (Mark, if you’re reading, thanks for taking the time to meet me.)

All looks good, but my wife (whose hard-earned cash I’ll be spending) is still concerned that I’ve been able to find hardly any reviews. We’ve both completely bought into the build-to-last philosophy, but if it means unloading wet dishes every day that would be miserable, and it seems that many dishwashers produce exactly that. Is there a place on this site where satisfied owners might have posted comments ?

Also, could I ask how the warranty works ? I hope I won’t need it, of course, but would I just use the “Find An Engineer” link in the “Contact Us” section of your site ?

    Thanks

    Re: ISE dishwasher

    Hi BBD,

Sadly, we can’t force people to review products, we have to live with what we get. But, if you search about you should find several on Asko dishwashers from around the globe.

Mark probably told you a bunch about the warranty and there’s loads on the ISE website about it as well.

TBH though, a year we can almost count on one hand how many dishwashers have any issue at all let alone an actual fault.
