ParticipantAs ISE is marketed largely on it’s reduced effect toward environmental waste. That they contribute less toward landfill and greenhouse gases and rather more toward a longer lasting and ultimately recyclable product. Why then don’t you consider going the whole hog, as it were, and actively recommend the likes of Ecover products across the range?
Now, before Ken gets his big stick to me again :rolls: ….listen up!
๐GREEN issues are getting more and more press. The public is taking that route (forced in many cases) every day and are all too aware by now on the subject of global warming and ‘eco friendly’ products etc etc.
Today the press (yet again) is full of such stuff and in this case the spotlight centred on harmful phosphates in washing detergents. Non-biodegradable they are and get into our water courses, rivers and reservoirs. Mr Hilary Benn the current Environment Secretary is ‘considering’ voluntary bans as well as future legislation toward these harmful bi-products. Washing powder alone contributes to around 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of all phosphate pollution here in the UK (apparently?).
So, the likes of Ecover produce a perfectly viable, perfectly usable alternative that will work just as well in any ISE machine and used correctly will not create any problems within the machines either. I’ve come across loads of appliances running with these products and they are just fine, they really are. ๐
If ISE were to contact Ecover and do a few laboratory tests (whatever it takes) to check their suitability, I’m sure a deal can be done and yet another avenue creating greater sales output will follow. After all said and done other manufacturers recommend many and varied detergent manufacturers and aren’t confined to one brand promotion, why should ISE be any different?
In fact, that is possibly the answer? ISE is different, and for it to take a more tree hugging roll may well prove a very strategic move indeed. ๐ ๐ 8)

Short, simple non-PC answer is…
Because Ecover is absolutely cr4p as it stands now.
PC answer is…
We have strong links to a much, much better alternative with a better green agenda and no downside.
(Not P&G)

The Ecover users machines in this soft water area stink, are grubby and have rotten drum supports. ๐ฟ

Very good!
I used Ecover as an example of a non-phosphate based detergent, I wonder if you can elaborate as to your alternative please? ๐
To be GREEN is to be COOL after all these days ๐

The same effects can be true also of the misuse of Ariel. In fact far more drum supports corrode and machines stink thanks to the likes of Ariel by those that fail to follow the manufacturers instructions. I’m sure you will agree? ๐

Martin, can I ask why you ask as you donโt sell any machines at all so far as I am aware?

Indeed I don’t as well you know, yet I try in what little way I can to promote the entire ISE concept. It is in my interest also to help towards the continued success of this venture for the sake off all who have invested in it. 8)
My wife and I have put a lot of our time and combined talents in producing the revised ISE CI555WH User Booklet. Since that time I have helped answer technical questions many ISE agents have encountered with the product within the ISE forums.
This thread was intended as yet another pertinent question by me to what I thought may be yet a further expansion of the brand. It is in my opinion an opportunity to capture the attention of all those who choose to use green detergent products in their machines. More and more are switching to these products for the good of the planet and all that goes with it. It occurred to me that if ISE can get on that bandwagon sales would increase many fold and many of my colleagues in the trade will benefit from that both directly and (as in my case ๐ ) indirectly. 8)
Does that answer your question? ๐

I was just curious Martin. ๐
We have a link with Simply from Aquados which does work. Performs as well or better than Ariel in most areas yet is far more eco-friendly and we have already been involved in some joint marketing ventures.
Ecover on the other hand are a bit up their own a$$ as well as testing really, really badly on every test Iโve ever seen. Of course their own tests show them in a positive light but independent tests put them behind most of even the own label stuff, in some cases even the โvalueโ type products. They have also been called into question over ethics in some areas as reported a few weeks ago on the site. When you get into the โgreen mafiaโ as it is known, the green retailers etc., you WILL have to be able to justify your position and you better be sure of your ground.

Well there we are then ๐

Well nice move chap, seems a good product although not too many local stockists? Value for money seems excellent too…..Can we get some samples from these guys to run a few of our own tests?
I really believe that taking ISE through the whole range of detergent products is the way forward. Especially encompassing the green guys and getting them to promote ISE has got to be worth a punt surely?
Anyway, you catch my drift and please feel free to keep me up to speed on that aspect. And , as usual, if I can be of any help with anything ISE then you’ve got my number 8)

Simply is stocked at Morissons as well as one other national chain IIRC. It is also available from the Simply website easily enough.
Value, yes it is good.
Samples, doubt it theyโre not a company like P&G that would just hand product out like it was candy.
Do you not think that, with the ads we ran in The Ecologist etc. that we might just have thought about the green stuff already? ๐
The point is that we have been trying to, whilst also promoting ISE, also promote the โrepair rather than replaceโ mentality to whoever we can which serves the repairers as well as ISE.

No, at least it hasn’t been apparent so far at least? The “Clean clothes, dirty planet” article in the Ecologist merely relates to the machines features and gives no mention of enviromentally friendly detergents? ๐
I’d rather like to think that my mentioning the subject may just have been the seed to germinate the idea? I’m sure it’s an idea that will blossom in the fullness of time whoever thought of it first. 8)
Meanwhile I’m going to order of mess of this Simply stuff just to see what its like? But one thing I have learnt since the whole training thing on the Ariel stuff is that those that choose to use green detergents, be it Ecover, Soap Nuts or whatever, don’t and won’t hear of using Ariel or anything like it! ๐ฏ
However convincing an argument you put toward using Ariel and its benefits, the GREEN users won’t have it! :rolls: Not a word of it…. :rolls:
Now if I had a van full of SIMPLY for sale? With this lot I’m sure I could make a killing! (And flog an ISE or two via RDS into the bargain :snig: )

KeymasterRe: ISE to go green?
You have to be careful Martin, we are promoting ISE in the end as well as the repairers, not detergent. The detergent manufacturers have their own advertising spends, some of which we do and have โpiggy backedโ onto.
You probably could make money flogging Simply and, if you like and we can get enough interest in that as a product line, I can look into it further and getting a trade price on it.
As for selling machines via RDS, well thereโs worse things could happen in the world and I have to say that, where retailers or repairers work together it is one of the most successful scenarios. Just ask Jim.

Well for a bit of ‘unofficial’ ISE field trials I bought a tub from Sainsburys. 30 tabs for ยฃ2.99 which ain’t a bad price if they get results? Got a load on the go at the moment in fact. ๐

Oh it works okay. It’s as good as Ariel on most tests which surprised me, looses a few but not many.
Interestingly it was designed for use in commercial applications and so contains a sterilising agent as well although they don’t make a big play of that for some reason.
You do realise that you have the non-bio one don’t you so the effectiveness will be reduced accordingly?

ParticipantHi All,
I am surprised at the heat of the debate over this issue.
We have done some joint marketing activity with Aquados on ‘netmums’ which worked well, and we will do somemore.
I am talking to a number of ‘green’ organisations with a view to a bit of mutual back scatching.
The reason there is no mention of detegents in our ads is simplly that at over ยฃ3 per word we are only going to talking about ISE.
I hope this information helps.
