ParticipantπΏ I have had terrible poblems with the Kenwood KDW12ss. After only three weeks of use mine stopped working–all the buttons began flashing at once and it wouldn’t turn on. I had had a blocked sink earlier that day and wondered if the malfunction was something to do with that but my friend has the same model with the same problem and has now had to return it to the shop because even the Kenwood engineer couldn’t fix the problem! Will mine be going back too–or does anyone have any suggestions?

KeymasterDon’t suppose it says “Made In China” on it does it?
The image isn’t that great on the Currys website but it looks awfully like a Haier in a dress to me. If it is that then at ~Β£270 for a stainless dishwasher with those sorts of features then looking up an equivilent from most of the majors that do one, such as Smeg, should explain a lot. π
Made to meet a price point and a style, not a quality.

One of the common faults is water leaking from the door ? and going into sump which puts the machine in anti flood mode, so untill water is removed or dries out it stays in the fault mode. I have come across some of the cheap dishwasher powders causing this.
I do dread going to them. KirkJune 1, 2005 at 7:43 am #136578BobHope

Thanks so much for your replies. Dishwasher still not working–engineer coming on Monday. I thought the deal was too good to be true at the time! π

There seems to be a common factor in these faults…
The anti flood is being operated by water going down the vents at the back of the base. It seems to happen where 3 in one tablets are used in conjunction with rinse aid, the over sudsing is upsetting the water level at strategic times. We have cleared one appliance 3 times in 5 weeks, the customer is unable to get a replacement appliance even though this is brand new.
Things to do…..
If your using 3 in one tablets…stop
revert to normal ones at least until the rinse aid is empty.
take care not to overfill the rinse aid compartment if using ordinary tablets, if you spill wipe it up.Other than that I hear rumours that MFI and CDA are using the same dishwasher and having some problems!! We went to a Baumatic in guarantee and it was the same dishwasher, with the same fault. Faulted second time of being used.

Just had the same problem with our Kenwood.
Bailed out the water and left it on it’s side for 5 mins?
Know it works!!June 2, 2005 at 10:15 pm #136582sungam

I have been using 3 in 1 tablets and rinse aid so that might be the problem. Will also try the lying it on its side trick–although there doesn’t appear to be any water in the machine. I’ll let you know what engineer suggests. π

Thank you so much for the lying-it-on-its-side advice. Guess what? I just tried it–lots of water came out and now dishwasher is working again. I’ll revert to normal tablets and keep rinse aid to a minimum. Thanks for all your advice! Still think it’s probably a duff dishwasher! Jennie π

KeymasterNa not duff, just not the best will we say. I’ll refrain from profanity. π

We bought the same machine from Currys. 3 out of 4 wheels for the top tray snapped within 2 weeks of use. This also appears to be a common problem.
After 45mins of circular automated calls I got Currys central customer support line (0870 1545570). The very helpful chap I spoke to said that Currys have acknowledged there is a problem with some batches of this maching and I was given a number for an immediate in-store replacement.
Call them and complain!

And Teka
And Westinghouse
And apparently also Hotpoint.
There’s probably a few more we just haven’t come across yet as well.It would seem that no one is able to resist the price of these monstrosities π‘

Yep this dishwasher seems a pile of pooh
Iβve had the problem with the spindles for the wheels on the top basket breaking
If you ring 0239247600 they will eventually send you a new pair of sides which you have to fit your self.A good temporary fix is to use some stainless steel bolts through the stump thatβs left
Now I have the famous lights flashing and water poring out the bottom problem.
Can any one tell me how to get in to this machine?
Is all access from the bottom?
If some one could e-mail me the service information on this DW I will publish it for all, at my risk
And In court I will make known that this thing is not fit for proposeOctober 13, 2005 at 10:26 am #136588NWAR

Unfortunately we cannot supply you with the service manual as this would be an infringement of copyright. Any trade member supplying technical information to a member of the public is likely to be hit pretty hard by the manufacturers if they get caught.
