ParticipantHi,
My Liebherr Freezer is running at -9C. The compressor cuts in and out so thermostat is ok.
I have tried turning off for couple of days in case frost in system was to blame but now turned on again still runs at -9C.
My guess is that the temperature sensor is faulty and I am planing to test it in the way that has been suggested in the help and advice section by removing it and connecting a multimeter to watch any values change when brought near to something hot.
Can you please tell me how to remove the covers on the lugs near the top of the inner freezer walls? Are there then screws under these covers that will allow me to lower the area above where I hope to find the sensor(s). Also which sensor is likely to be the faulty one please.Regards,
Colin Powell

hello, -9 is about the temperature that you’d expect if the fan was running, or if there was no effect of the fan running.
by that, I mean if the evaporator is blocked with ice and there is no air flow that the appliance relies on for its efficiency.
can you supply a service number?May 29, 2014 at 5:22 pm #414552Colin Powell

Would 2 days switched off not be long enough to melt any ice?

With the door open, maybe.
If you pull the clips off either side the evaporator will swing down. Then you can take off the top insulation piece to expose the evaporator, when you could see if there was frost on it.
How long has the freezer been turned back on for?May 29, 2014 at 7:15 pm #414555Colin Powell

I’ve now swung down the evaporator and there is no ice (it,s been turned off now for a further 2 days now) and I can spin the fan blade freely.
I’ve also now located the two sensors but difficult to disconnect at the back. Does the tray pull right out some how?

No, not at all.
-9 would tell me that the fan isn’t working.
The sensors plug into the pcb on the top. I’d check that the fan works when the evaporator is frosted and the door is closed.
If the fan isn’t working, then your problem could be evaporator sensor 9590148, fan or pcb.May 29, 2014 at 7:39 pm #414557Colin Powell

Shall I bypass the evaporator sensor at the PCB to see if the temperature drops enough to start the fan?

No.
The pcb needs the impulse from the sensor to power the fan.June 2, 2014 at 12:45 pm #414559Colin Powell

With the evaporator swung down I have now lifted the sensor out, replaced the polystyrene and hung the sensor just inside the door so that it will monitor the air temp rather than the evaporator temp.
With the evaporator now secured back where it should be and after 6 hours my freezer has now reached -18C (temperature indicator set at -18C no longer flashes and the alarm light also is out + I have a thermometer in the freezer confirming -18C). The fan definitely works because I put a pen mark on one of the blades earlier and upon reinspection it had changed position.
Is it now safe to assume that the evaporator sensor is faulty?
If so, I will purchase one from your site.
Is it in the form of a repair kit where I cut the existing wire to remove the old and connect the new?June 2, 2014 at 8:21 pm #414560ELDAR59
ParticipantRe: Liebherr GN2323 Freezer not cold enough
The sensor has to touch the evaporator for the freezer to work properly. There is an air sensor too and the freezer electronics take into account the difference between the two sensors in order to function properly.
The evap sensor switches on the fan and controls the defrost so I can’t understand why the fan is running or your methodology to be honest.
Are you sure it’s the evaporator sensor you’ve hung out or could it be the air sensor?
In terms of probability, your problem is likely to be with the evap sensor anyway.
The sensor is in kit form and does involve cutting and re joining.June 4, 2014 at 2:34 pm #414561Colin Powell

Hi,
Thanks for the feedback. It is the evaporator sensor that I have re-routed to the general freezer area. I did this because I suspected the sensor to be faulty and stopping the freezer from getting down to -18C. By putting it somewhere warmer I figured that this would allow the general freezer area to get down to the previous evaporator temp before cutting out which it has.
Also I am now able to put food in the freezer which is at the correct temp but I realise that this is a temporary fix and hopefully have eliminated other possible faults.
I now feel quite confident buying the new sensor.August 5, 2014 at 5:38 pm #414562Colin Powell

The sensor unfortunately has not done the trick. Can you give me the ref no. for the pcb please for my Liebherr GN2323? I guess that is the only remaining part that can have failed.
Thanks, Colin

Hello Colin, I’ll look at the tech info for you in the morning.
What are you experiencing at the moment?
There has been two months since your last post and so your freezer must have worked fir a while since?August 7, 2014 at 8:35 am #414564ELDAR59
