Thank you all for your generosity in sharing your hard earned knowledge regarding dishwashers, Especially the reminder about spindly legs balanced onto bits of broken tiles etc. I remember the pain involved in taking one out to access a water valve and it was no fun whatsover taking that integrel dishwasher in and out.
I have already emailed Dixon training, have not had time to pick up Haynes manual today Done 0830 untill 18.15 without a dinner break and with the phone on call divert to my mobile 😯

Bread and butter stuff this Neil, probably the first of many that you’ll see. The good news is that the Bosch group machines are virtually the only ones that you can access the drain pump without having to remove the machine. First of all, remove lower basket, strainer and filters. Get rid of all the “soup” from the bottom. It’s always a good idea to suggest to the customer that they remove this when making the booking to stop it going smelly and save you the horrible job. Looking down inside the sump, remove the single torx head screw at the 9 o’clock position which holds on the funny shaped plastic cover, which gives you access to the drain pump impellor. Remove whatever is stopping it. You can test it by selecting reset ( usually by pressing the 2 buttons together as indicated on the top of the door). This will bring on the pump for 1 minute.
I hope that makes some sense to you, I’ve probably not explained it very well, but I’m sure once you see it, your previous experience will kick in.
Good luck!
Dave

Don’t know about the rest but you can access all full size Whirpool dishwasher drain pumps from the front as well.

Printed your explanation off to remind me when I get there. Fortunately customer has already de-souped it for me.

With the Bosch machines, 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time it’s a piece of glass stuck in the impeller.
Trouble is it can be a bitch to get out as it either slips back or tries to wedge itself into the out going waste pipe.I find that once all the ‘soup’ has been soaked up by an old towel or similar, if you get some kitchen paper and make a thick long stick of it, then force it under the impeller whilst turning it, the glass will stick to the paper and come away very easily with it.
That’s also a good lesson for 95{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of dishwashers not draining, it’s always a piece of glass trapped in the pump impeller. Reason being a combination of cheap (thin) glasses and thermal shock/bad loading, which breaks off a chip from the glasses.
As someone above has said, dishwashers are an art form in their own right. The beauty of that is the cowboys are clueless and stay away for the most part. Get in there and dip your bread!

Ok, when I meant access from the front, I should have said “access the impellor and clear any obstructions from the inside of the machine”.
Sorry Penguin, final word.

I picked up a fantastic tip from some Genius on this forum: To empty the dishwasher soup when the pumps Penguined. Remove the top spray arm, Place a bucket under the top basket, and the sump will empty itself. as long as you can set the machine to a wash position. Did it last Saturday ,Customer was well impressed. 8).

This is a pic of the bosch dishwasher I mentioned yesterday that I went to went to today.
The hole at the bottom center is the outlet to the drain pump. Can’t see any way of getting at impellor from here?
(Might look odd as my phone reverses the image)

Drain pump is a twist-fit, accessible through the lower front panel on those ones.

A lot been said here no doubt, one important bit of advice not mentioned is that dishwashers can be lethal to the unsuspecting service engineer !
I of course refer to the stanley blade edges of doors and internals along with cavitys. Watch these or you will have claret all over the place. Dishwasher doors stripped down for work can spring and in your haste to catch hold of it you slice your hands to pieces
Caution at all times is my advice
