The problem of the door springing up (especially when the decor door has been removed on integrated machines) is something to be mindful of as Squadman rightly says. An easy way to hold a door is to fully open and clamp your mole grips on one of the hinge plates. The door can actually be stopped at any angle with this method and avoids you having to lean on or weigh the door down leaving your hands free and safe. 😉
(If you put a weight on the door to keep it open, the average integrated dishwasher will often bodily tip over).Steve.

Had a quick look at a Dishwasher for a neighbour of a customer.
Hotpoint FDW60P
Symptoms – Low insulation
Water pours out from base when tilted back slightly.Going back tommorow for a proper look.
With my washing machine hat on I would be looking straight at element and motor for low insulation.
I guess on a dishwasher It could be the door harness although machine is under 2 years old.And the water in the bottom, could it be deep enough to saturate any electrical components? I have read about the outlet hose melting because of its proximity to the heater. Could this be soaking the heater causing low insulation?
Finally, how do I gain access to all the main gubbins?

Lid off, plinth off, right side panel off and all will become clear. Water in the base of these machines is common. Outlet hose holes near the pump rubber cuff and the securing collar where it passes through the cabinet are ones to look for. Other problems are the lock nut under the salt cap inside the tub can work loose and leak.
Motor is most likely for low insulation if the machine has been tilted back. Heater and everything else would have been ‘jetwashed’ by a hole in the outlet hose so in that case everything needs to be checked. :rolls: The heater is a flow type and is the tubular item you see as soon as you take the side panel off.
If you can fix this machine, you have a snapshot of probably half the dishwashers with faults around at the moment. Hotpoint, Indesit, Baumatic and Haier to name a few all use this design. Loads out there and loads going wrong daily. Such is the excellent design and impeccable quality control of these machines. :snig:HTH,
Steve.

Further to my Dishwasher Training Schedule I have now obtained this most highly esteemed dishwasher for spares or repair.
The fault as observed by myself is the machine will pump out on start up occasionaly but more often than not it just refuses to start.
On inspection I have found a build up of crud around the wash pump motor as shown on this picture available at
http://www.wellbebo.co.uk/Is this likely to be causing the problem?
How is this particular problem (leak) repaired? Thanks in advance..

Model Kenwood KDW12ssNew circulation pump will fix the leak but no guarantee that this will fix the other fault.
I would seriously recommend one of these 😉

Classic signs of impellor seal leak…it will eventually lead to wash pump seizure. In the meantime it could give rise to earth faults from the moisture or if the leak is big enough it would set off any flood protector (if fitted!).
Earth faults can play havoc with the electronics of course 😉…and as Steve says the only cure is a new wash pump

Would not this course of action possibly lead to further complications 😯
I might just persevere though and restore this machine to as new condition even if I have to rebuild it from scratch. This particular model looks good if nothing else!

No it would prevent further breakdowns 😆
Seriously though I went to one of these yesterday (Baumatic BDW45) two previous under warranty breakdowns for water in base with no obvious cause and same fault again.
Advised customer that this is what these beasts do and to save his money and get a new one next time it goes wrong!Steve

i got my first Dishwasher call on friday and it wasn’t a very nice introduction , an 8 year old Servis easylogic, when i opened the door i nearly fell over, the customer had been using it for 4 weeks washing her pots in cold water, it was black on the inside and the smell was just unbelivable, i had to put an ASBO on it. She told me no one in the area would come out to a dishwasher so she had no choice but to keep using it cold, i checked everything out and i cant find a thing wrong with it, any advice would be good and i will definatly be doing some more research into Dishwashers and training , it would be good business for my new company, this thread has encoraged me loads to say yes to dishwashers and persever
thanks Ian
