Maytag LAT9606GGE Buzz

    After this machine finishes filling the tub it starts buzzing (and sometimes at other points when it needs to start spinning or agitating). For a while it was possible to jerk the machine around and then it would start. The lid switch just needed to be replaced and the jerk start isn’t working. Any ideas what the problem is/could be?

    Some of the Maytag machines have capacitors on the motor, check this first. Does it run with the belt off? possible seized gearbox.

    I checked the capacitor and it seems ok. I haven’t tried removing the belt, but next time it gets stuck I will.

    siezed or sticking drain pump is another possibility!!

    so next time its buzzin take of the belt and if the motor runs ok then try turning the pump by hand…good luck!

    if someone says my washer is “buzzin” in my area its a good thing!!

    remember the peter kay sketch about the cinama and screen 3 buzzin 🙂

    I took off both of the belts and it still buzzes. If I give the motor a few taps on the side it starts up. Could it still be the capacitor? the capacitor is 65-77 mf and my digital multimeter only reads up to 20 so I have checked it with OHM and it doesn’t read infinity.

    Any other ideas appreciated!

    You cannot read the capacitance value with a multimeter Simmy 😉

    If you haven’t the correct test instrument to check the capacitor your only choice is trial and error and to try a new one. However a faulty capacitor is not very common. Another possibility is the centrifugal switch sticking. If the switch is faulty it is easily replaced. If the accuator lever is sticking it usually means a new motor.

    Buy a decent capacitance meter :rotfl:

    …I’ve got my meter ready….do please explain how I can test a capacitor?

    Thanks for that Bob but yes I already have the test meter like that but I have never ever figured how the hell you test a capacitor? In fact I’ve got 2 (brand new) capacitors on my desk, a 12.5mf and a 16mf. How can my meter tell me which one is which? I’d love to know….. 😀

    Martin, you simply plug the cap into the socket on the meter (or apply the probes to it) and wait for the meter to work it’s magic. IIRC, the cap under test is put into an R-C or L-C circuit.

    We’re talking about an actual capacitance range on the selector, not just watching it charge on the Ohms setting…

    Thanks anyway but you’ve lost me there. 😕

    I’ve got a 16mf capacitor, I set it on the 20mf scale and bung the test leads on the cap terminals? ZIPPO !!!!(Digital readout = 000) :rolls: Switching my meter from AC to DC makes no never mind either?

    Try another multimeter says I ?…. 8) Just the same…… 😕 Maybe the batteries are duff? Stick a new set in, no difference….Put meter away and watch the telly instead?…Good idea! 8)
