thanks Martin – I’ll give that a go now (fuse check), because I’ve just changed the relay and the problem remains.
After that, I’ll have to learn how to change the brushes … I’m sure there’s a link on here somewhere.
Thanks for your help.

IT’S FIXED!!!
Thanks especially to Muv aka Martin, and my brother who talked me through some of the soldering detail, from a long way away. For the record, the replacement fuse had blown because the relay was dead, from the first time the fuse blew – as the experts on here had advised it would be.
In case it helps someone else, here’s the sequence, from fault to solution:
Overload caused failure – ‘rinse’ light flashing.
Removed EL200 circuit board, as advised on this site.
Using a multimeter, established that fuse was blown.
Replaced fuse, problem remained.
Next night, replaced relay (as site had originally advised would be necessary).
Problem remained.
Was considering replacing brushes (because drum was not turning) when Martin advised that the original faulty relay might have blown the replacement fuse. Advised checking that first.
Fuse was blown – replaced with another from my multipack.
Success.Got all my parts from RS for about £6, including delivery. The machine lives to fight another day.
fuse: RS 6.3A Radial T Leaded PCB Mount Fuse, 250 V ac
RS Stock No.611-9346Brand RS
http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/non-reset … s/6119346/relay: it’s RS 680-3830. http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/non-latch … s/6803830/
Hope that posting those links doesn’t infringe forum policy.
On with the washing.
Thanks again.

Would also now advise you to replace the shocks,as these are to blame for your original oroblem ( machine overloaded on worn shocks caused the drum pulley to hit the outer casing !

ParticipantMiele W946i. Flashing ‘Rinses’ light.
Hello!
I’ve been reading the comments for the W844 model despite owning a Novotronic 946i washer-dryer as much of the fault-finding and diagnosis seemed similar; however, I’m now at something of a loss.
Given I’ve only just this minute registered for an account, if I need to open a new forum post for this ‘fault’ then please just let me know! My apologies.
Up until a few weeks ago, we’d never had any problems with our Miele washer-dryer. Incredibly reliable. Then the “Water Inlet/Drain” light began flashing and it filled incredibly slowly – a trickle. After checking everything obvious (blocked pipework, etc.) I bought and replaced the triple valve with a new OEM/non-Miele part.
This worked OK for a few days but then the Rinse light began flashing. Now, whenever I turn the machine on (even with all dials in their off or neutral positions) the drum spins briefly (it starts with a bit of a squeal, whereas up until now everything had been absolutely silent) and then settles down. To open the door I have to hold the Open Door button until the drum has stopped spinning (and the Locked light has extinguished) which usually takes around 15-20 seconds.
I’ve followed everything concerning checking and replacing the motor bushes (they didn’t need replacing but, as I had access to a nearly-new W946i I bought for £20 ‘just-in-case’ – this had a problem with the Water Inlet/Drain light flashing too!!!) I replaced them with some even longer bushes (I actually replaced the entire bush mounting structure in one go as the ‘spare’ machine was almost spotlessly clean inside and looked as though it had been used considerably less than the one I was attempting to repair!).
However, the problem still persists. As the PCBs are numbered differently (obviously), I’m at a loss as to whether there are any fuses which may require checking/replacing or which relays to give the once over.
Can anyone help … and should I repost this as a new question?
Thank you in advance,
Steve.

I made an account just to say thanks! My W844 did exactly the same thing – refusing to spin, with the rinse light flashing. Managed to find this topic, took the machine apart and replaced the fuse and relay with the parts from RS in springchicken’s post and put it back together. It’s been working perfectly since. Probably cost me 10quid for the parts.
THANKS EVERYONE!!

Hi all,
Working on a friends W865… its getting on a bit (2002) but this is the first time its let him down… Rinse light flashes.. then stops – then flashes and stays flashing.
It fills and drains ok if you try different programs..long story short – Brushes are ok (not great – but there is life still in them)
I’ve taken the board off and the fuse has blown…
I’ve then tested the 6K1 relay (off the board) and its latching as it should.
(others are also ok)
Is there anything else I should swap out or check – or am I OK just to do the fuse (pack of 10 coming from RS)Thanks all.

always change the relay. it may seem to work but you cant say without opening it if the contacts had stuck and now work ok. don’t forget it 16 years old and that relay activates lots of times in a wash
also check shock absorbers drum bouncing wildly can cause this problem

Cheers.
Brushes and dampers are on order too (not genuine Miele – but they will do for now)There is obvious evidence of the motor belt pulley hitting the rear panel, and just for good measure, there is even drum marks on the glass door!
The relays on the board are sealed with resin so I can’t pop the cover off to have a look or clean the contacts as a test fix… But I’ll pop a new one in too.
Fingers crossed 🙂March 20, 2018 at 1:38 am #254143electrofix

non gen shocks will be fine fitted loads
you will be surprised how quiet it is on spin when you have done it

ParticipantI’ll fix the 18-20 year old W844 washing machine.
Rinse Light Flashing …
Relay 6K1 broken and fuse blown.
Parts cost 3.50 eurThe machine sliding resistors / shock absorbers are in poor condition. They should also be replaced. Price about 80 eur

ParticipantThanks to all on this trail – today fixed my W866 showing the exact same symptoms of flashing rinses light after overloading it and hearing a louder than normal bang as it tried to spin
Note to self – those banging noises for the last 5+ years are not normal & new shocks were in fact needed before the board blew – £20 for a compatible pair or £90 for real Miele – personally on a 15+ year old machine compatible is OK
The RS part numbers listed above are still valid – and in fact actually say that people ordering the fuse generally also purchase the relay …..
Board fix took maybe 20 mins – but note that you will need a solder sucker ( be careful how you Google that ) and a decent fine point iron – but again it is only £14 for a kit of new ones from Amazon if you don’t have them
Thanks Again – saved me a ton of hassle

ParticipantReturning to the thread after 13 years.
I’m pleased to say that my now 21 year old W844 is still running.
And I’m pleased to see that others have repaired their machines with the tips shared in this thread. After having the EL200D board repaired in 2008, it failed again in 2020 with exactly the same fault. The radial fuse had blown. This time I repaired the board myself with the fuse and relay parts forum member springchicker kindly posted in post #17 of this thread.
I also replaced the shock absorbers during the same 2020 incident. The original shock absorbers had lost all resistance. Which is to be expected after 20 years. The ‘Rinses’ light fault returned again this week, a year and a half after the 2nd EL200D board repair. However this time it wasn’t the EL200D that had failed. I checked the radial fuse with a DVM and it was still intact. What I found was that the motor carbon brushes had worn out. They were the original brushes. It’s amazing that they lasted 21 years as the machine is used on a near daily basis.
I replaced the brushes with a £10 set from ebay that are copy parts of the original Miele brushes, Miele part number 4297414. One thing with the copy parts is that the rubber holder they come with is a different shape to the original. You need to reuse the original rubber holder. Which is not a problem. I doubt the copy parts will last as long as the originals. Let’s see.
Finally I did catch myself out this time and found that the machine kept reporting a ‘Check inlet’ fault after I had reassembled it. I had forgotten to plug the vacuum sensor hose back in after refitting the EL200D board. One to watch out for.
Good luck with your repairs.

Anyone who has the same problem.. I now repair these boards for £35.00+ return postage…
Martin
Hi Martin, are you still repairing these boards? My W863 has the same problem, and the local machine man only fits whole boards from Miele, as he’s had bad experiences with pattern parts in the past, though he did say the EL200C is the fault, and that the motor, pump etc are all fine otherwise. kind regards Jess
