ParticipantApologies from me first up on the blatant name dropping but you see I got a call around 8:30 this morning from my good customer ..one Lord Canarvon. Yes he off Highclere Castle (a.k.a Downton Abbey)…..
…anyroad….He asked me if I could ‘pop in’ and take a look at his Zanussi Washer sometime soon as, apparently, it doesn’t complete the programme? Needless to say I volunteered my services this very morning and he admitted that it was “frightfully hectic” today at Highclere Castle as they have a ‘Christmas Fayre’ on. But as I knew where the machine was to let myself in and fix it, if I can.
I called by and the problem was a blocked filter. However in amongst the debris I found THIS….!!!! and whilst the photo doesn’t do it justice I am more than convinced it is a genuine diamond, it certainly sparkles a lot in the light anyway. 🙂
Once I’d finished the repair, I went along the the Estate Office and asked to see Lord Canarvon in person. The Estate Manager told me he’d gone to London. “Can I see Lady Carnavon then?” I asked…but she was too busy hosting the Christmas Fayre. Meanwhile the Estate Manager promised to speak with Lady Carnavon as soon as possible to tell her of my find. I left the gem with the Estate Manager and left on his assurance his Lordship would be in touch with me ASAP.
Probably, knowing my luck right now, it’s just a glass fake dress diamond but either way in 40 odd years I’ve never found such a thing in a pump filter before. And, given the customer, you can understand my excitement of, at worst just getting a thankyou phonecall and at best a reward for finding it….maybe? 😕

It was probably the glove blocking the pump I would guess. 😀

Found a £500, solid gold necklace in a machine many years ago. 😯
Unfortunately I didn’t know it was that valuable until I had shown it to the customer. 😥 😈

Long time ago when I worked for Indesh*t I took a slightly bent ring with a large Diamond on it out of a pump. When I showed it to the ‘lady’ She snatched it out of my hand and screamed ‘Jesus f***ing Christ, I’ve just put the £15000 (fifteen thousand) claim in to the Insurance for that’
I got neither a ‘thank you’ nor a tip..
Recentley I got a recall from an Asian chap where I’d replaced his pump. He made pretty damn sure that he wouldn’t be paying anymore money out as I’d only fitted the pump the previous month. I made pretty damn sure that that was fine as long as nothing was trapped in there.
He stood over my shoulder and watched me as I dismantled the pump and took out a very heavy and very long gold chain from the pump.
Once again, no thanks or tip, but he did pay up 😀December 7, 2010 at 5:54 pm #338080Bill

went to a hotpoint some years ago with the problem of not pumping out (to long) removed the filter and found 12 x 22 bullets (live but safe)and a gold watch. As soon as the customer saw the watch she burst into tears and told me that she had lost her mothers watch some years back and thought she would never see it again. O/K the working may have been no good but the case and band were as new.

I found a twenty pound note in a filter once but the customers teenage son happened to see it as it came out of the filter. He took the money and said with a wry smile on his face “I’ll make sure my dad get’s that”….. yes ok. Got my own back and wrote details on the job sheet after he’s signed it and left it on the side for his dad.
A collegue found a large thick gold chain and pocketed it. And he was an “honest” special constable at the time. Thieving git.December 7, 2010 at 10:01 pm #338083spimps

Your too honest, I’d have kept it.

Sold it and given it to charity, the wealthy sometimes need to be reminded how obscene there lives are in a world that has more poverty than wealth.
What would bring more satisfaction the smile of a rich toff or that of a starving child. 🙁

Ah yes, an old friend. Do pass on my regards. 😆
I take it the lady with the frightfully slippery drive you went to the other day passed your name to him when she went round to take tea.

In my business career I make little disticntion between rich and poor. I serve both with equal measure. I would no more steal a diamond from a rich man than precious heirloom from a poor one. But I welcome your thoughts nonetheless.

Yes I will Mike 😀

Funny this subject should come up . Last week I got a call from a very nice lady asking me lots of questions. She must of phoned me four times in a hour to ask things like do I have insurance , which I thought was odd.
Anyway on the fourth call she finally books me to go to a job at someone else’s house . Now me being nosey asks is it for a friend your ringing for .
she says “No we are a concierge service and the customer has lost a very expensive necklace in her washing machine”
So hopefully by tomorrow I’ll be able to add more to this thread.
Stay tuned.December 8, 2010 at 10:03 pm #338088boselecta

Don’t go!!!
If you cant find the necklace, or if you find it and succeed in secreting it in your toolbox, they’ll be claiming off your PLI! 😆
