The Daily Scare wrote:New, inescapable speed cameras

The Government has introduced a new generation of average speed camera that can track motorists across entire networks of roads.

The first versions went live on a stretch of the A13 carriageway that heads from southeast Essex into East London on January 31.

Existing average speed cameras only monitor a car’s speed between fixed points on the road, but the new models are capable of consistently tracking a vehicle.

The latest system has 84 cameras and 37 average speed monitoring points – it can even keep an eye on drivers entering and exiting a stretch of road.

RoadPilot, a firm that specialises in speed camera detection devices, has warned that this could be the start of an average speed monitoring system that spans the UK.

Chief Executive of RoadPilot, James Flynn OBE, said: “If this system proves successful, it could be extended or rolled out to other locations, all of which can be linked together.

“Taken to the extreme, the entire UK road network could, in theory, be linked up under one average speed monitoring system – meaning Big Brother could always be watching you!”

RoadPilot’s speed camera database has already been updated with the new, advanced camera sites, so users of the company’s products will be alerted to their presence.

    Deep joy.

Just another new way to screw more money from the generally law abiding public by our speed kills obsessed MP s and police .Safety cameras the silver bullet of road safety . 🙁

The scrappies (gypos) have a novel way of sorting out speed cameras round here. To weigh in the wheel rims they cut off the tyres with a disc cutter and then hang the tyre around the camera and set fire to it – its very effective 8)

And then just across the river in Rotherhithe they are trialing the Speed Spike……. and that is seriously scary.

    Re: New Speed Cameras

I hate this big brother type stuff as much as the next man and it is no doubt mainly a revenue raising exercise but I have to say I’m all for speed cameras at locations such as schools etc.

Sad to say, but a significant proportion of the motoring public are selfish idiots who spoil it for everyone.
Some people just have to do eighty plus everywhere, whatever the road, whatever the conditions, tailgaiting one car after another in the hope of reaching the promised land where no one is in front of them :rolls:

There simply isnt any pleasure in driving these days. 😥

    Re: New Speed Cameras

I think an average speed system sounds fairer. Occasionally exceeding the limit over a small distance on a few metres of road could catch anyone. An average system would only catch people with a heavy throttle foot.

    Re: New Speed Cameras

just plonk a camera on any large roundabout and prosecute the idiots who dont know how to drive round them might be a better bet then targetting those barely over the speed limit.

It’s harder to prosecute dangerous driving, dangerous vehicles, general idiots and idiot parking.

Much easier to target speeding motorists on an empty motorway doing 85mph doing nobody any harm.

Cameras round schools, no problems with that and other areas where there’s kids or a lot of pedestrians, even cyclists.

Just wish they could prosecute stupid people using a Land Rover to drop the kids off half a mile from their homes. Clogging up the roads at school times.

    Re: New Speed Cameras

The thing that gripes with me over all this is, that why speed or safety cameras have been proven to be effective at reducing accidents at KNOWN blackspots it has also provided a huge excuse for local councils and the government to use these technologies to openly spy on the population which they are hell bent on doing. The state want to monitor our every move physically and financially and you have to ask why would any state need to actually do this ? ? ?

Terrorism has given this state a golden opportunity to spend vast amounts of OUR money on this hardware without any discussion with the population as to how they perceive the question of being spied upon. With all these cameras in place the next golden Tax Goose will be Road Pricing on top of all the taxes we pay already.

I do not see any reason why a state would need to be able to pinpoint you to within within 15 feet at any time of the day and night other than to manipulate any data procured to their own advantages !

Its up to the population at large to decided if we need this type of technology, why the next thing will be installing cameras in mosques and spying on people with names like Abdul who have been down to Asda for some Ice ? Whatever next ?

It is great news for me it means i will be able to put my foot down the average speed round theses parts is only about 14mph anyway!

It is just another way to get money pure and simple because if they could not make money out if it i am damn sure they would not do it!

    Re: New Speed Cameras

i must admit the average cameras has helped in the m80 thers about 15-20 miles of them , before they went in ally you got was 60 down to nothing – 5minutes at nothing and then back up tp 60 …

now everybody at 40 – no holds ups apart from breakdowns etc …im told you can do 50 ..

the police should concentrate more on catching drivers with no insurance mot etc …

we moterist are ripped of as soon as we turn the key ..

    Re: New Speed Cameras

Known Accident Blackspots, surely the answer here is to redisign the road/junction to make it safer and then it wouldnt be an accident blackspot- that is more expensive and would bring no revenue so they put a camara there that catches every vehicle over the speed limit weather it was dangerous or not, speed cameras are cash generators, they do not have an opinion unlike the copper ion a car.

These average speed cameras on the A13 will have to be real lucky to trap anyone over 5mph let alone 50mph at peak times !! Its a bloody nightmare EVERY morning for those unlucky enough to have to drive on it .

    Re: New Speed Cameras

Very few cameras here in north Hampshire, the occasional plod hiding inside a camera van flitting from place to place just to catch you off guard, crafty sods!:rolls:

My main gripe is old duffers sticking to 28 mph in a 30 limit for mile after bl**dy mile where you can’t overtake and when your chance comes plod’s got you in his sights.

I’ve waited many a fortnight dreading the speeding fine hitting the coconut matting. So far, touch wood, I’m in the clear. 3 weeks ago I shot through amber traffic lights at about 38mph’ish maybe, plod 100yds ahead pointing my way, confirms my ABS still works if nothing else. 😛

Don’t get me started on the lazy tossers who drive out of the opposite culdesac drive into my road block my driveway, give me verbal abuse and tell me to wait while they drop of the sprog.

I am surprised anyone hasn’t come up with a new game with a 12 bore. 😆
