I hate the darn things… I got a £60 fine for no seatbelt a few months back… forgot to put the seatbelt on and it was picked up by the roadside mobile camera van .. Talk about invasion of privacy… took a picture right into my car.

i always try to give the mobile vans a subtle one finger salute when i pass , ive always wanted to run up and spray paint their window or something … what a sad life they have sitting in their wee van all day.. bet they are part time refs at weekend ..
my mate got caught with mobile , when he contested they sent him a photo with hin stuffing a chesse burger in his gob with one hand and chips in the other – he sheepishly decided to take the speeding fine ..
their a online lawers firm who will contest speeding/parking fines for you cant remember their name but they were on talk sport last week ..

The speed limit on a Duel Carriageway with a National Speed Limt sign is 70 unless otherwise stated by signage.

I like the idea of a duel carriageway, it often feels like that at rush hour. 😆
However Lawrence did specifically state that he was in a van.

Yet another advantage to having a ASTRA VAN, less space inside, but more speed applied. 8)

You’ve been lucky…I would do the lottery if I were you.

On that link it stated that the law has been in place for over 20 years but there was something very similar in place long before that.
In the mid 70’s I was once flagged down on the motorway in my Hotpoint, Ford Escort van.
My ‘supposed’ crime according to the ossifer was “driving to near the limit” 😯
I agreed with everything he said and then drove off at exactly the same speed.
I could be mistaken but I am sure that one archaic piece of legislation related to the windows. I think that if the van had an extra window just behind both front doors it was allowed to travel at 70mph on motorways but not dual carriageway A roads. There were some light vans that had such windows fitted as standard.
I would think that a fully laden Astra van would be above the 2 ton limit for dual carriageway A roads as well, but then Astra van drivers seem unable to keep below 90 mph on the motorways anyhow. :rolls:
Edit, Just noticed I related the same tale in the Astra thread Martin linked to. 😳

When I worked for Hotpoint , I had an astra with the ” family ” bench seat behind the driver and passenger seats , and think I was told I was able to abide by the car rules , whereas I had team mates with the standard 2 seats that came under the van rules .

i think a joke i heard recently encompasses all that is wrong with camera s it went something like ……..I recentley received three points for doing 35 mph in a 30 which i consider very fair considering i had 4 bold tyres no tax ,mot or insurance and was out of my face on alcohol and crack cocaine at the time .. 😆

I think it has nothing at all to do with making people adhere to the law.. It is IMO just a way of the Police and Local Authorities being able to gather in funds.
I would have nothing against Mobile Cameras or the punishments, if the punishment system didn’t benefit the system by means of fines.

Spent 30 years as a part time fire fighter in an area where road traffic accidents were more regular than fires,in fact fires were a novelty.
Speed camera’s if in the right spots ie schools, pedestrian areas and black spots do make a difference.I’ve been done, fair cop!
Seat belts, once pulled two girls one aged 10 and one 11 out of a dyke, thrown out of a vehicle when it rolled, seat belts would have saved their lives, the driver of their car was sent to prison for two years,a parent to! Can still hear her screams when she was told they were dead. They lived next door but one to me a one stage, lots of other cases of non belt fatalities and casualties..
I know they are a pain when we are shooting between calls but to remove them would be carnage.
Freeing the living when trapped is bad enough, cutting out dead bodies is an experience you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy, mind you it does make you drive a little more slowly !
Local authority held “horror days” when drivers on the verge of a ban were given a choice to have a one or two day correction course so those with experiences like mine, ambulance, police etc could put the frighteners on them,it always finished with a bereaved relative, couldn’t face those so firefighters usually left early.
Perhaps some sort of collision, accident evidence on learners etc might dissuade a few from reckless driving.
I still have freinds who will have a couple of beers and drive home, they just don’t realise the possible consequences of their actions, hope they never do,it’s a life time sentence.
Boils down to actions and their consequencies, nobodies perfect though.February 6, 2011 at 7:52 pm #343391Martin

I’m pleased you picked that up Jim as I was just about to say….. 😈
Besides I get a slight wheel wobble at 90 mph for some reason, so I crank it just a tad higher to overcome the problem. I think it may be those winter tyres I bought, but I’m not sure my theory stands right now on that? 😛 8)
