KeymasterYep they will do.
All they’re doing is trying to promote Miele in the best possible light which is their job, that they’re paid to do, which we’re not. 😉
That wouldn’t bother me so much if it weren’t for Miele’s bl00dy attitude to the indies.

Perhaps some careful editing of the posts they are linking to may not go amiss, 👿 😉

Yep, I may be tempted to put some links in to affiliate schemes just for badness really. My thinking being that we may as well get something out it as opposed to nothing, even if it pays for the coffee it’s better than booger all.
I was more interested in what you thought about the site.
Being in the trade we “get it” but I can’t see that site being very consumer focussed really, it’s unclear what it’s all about and, very quickly, anyone is going to realise that it’s just a big advert for Miele. Now, given that most people that are going to buy a Miele are presumed to be relatively intelligent I’d suspect that they’d look elsewhere for truly independent advice.
Also, perhaps it’s worth linking the “Miele” name on the threads to the Manufacturer page where it, nicely, tells people that service and spares are a rip off and they’ve no choice but to pay Miele what they ask. 😉

I’d expect an Adwords and possible an affiliate campaign to reinforce it. Either that or they’re relying on natural listings which will take, at least six to nine months to propagate the search engines. These days, quite possibly even longer unless you do some smart SEO and inbound linking when you start from scratch.
The only other way is through press advertising etc., which ain’t cheap and can be hit and miss when you’re appealing to an offline community to look online for answers to questions that they didn’t ask.
The question is, will Miele’s patience or budget run out before it produces any results?

By what they charge for spares and servicing, I reckon their patience will flounder first 😀

And I thought we were a sad bunch till I followed this link http://www.automaticwasher.org/ which seems to be a website dedicated to 1950’s american appliances, just noticed in the wanted section that they will pay up to $300 for old hotpoints 😆 I can smell an export oportunity here!!!
One bit that looked cool though was the map at the bottom of the page showing the user stats for the day, It shows where in the world people logged in from!!

I though I’d post this reply in here for you guys to see.
Basically the dude asked if I’d whack text links on the forums, basically as a sponsorship kind of thing and I explained the ethics of UKW and that we wouldn’t just accept advertising just to take the money and run in short. This was his reply which I thought I’d share as it does say a lot about the effort we all put in…
Advertising Dude wrote:Dear Ken,
Thanks for your full and frank reply. I respect your desire to not be recommending products you as an engineer think wouldn’t be a good purchase.
Its perhaps due to this philosophy that you are creating a respect and authority on the web which is probably why you are getting a lot of advertising interest at the moment. A lot of people are linking to your forums as a definitive resource for appliances.
Sometimes not selling out is a good thing after all, who knew eh? 😉

‘Cooperation and not confrontation’ is always the way to go. 😉
Whilst it is quite clear to this guy, and all at Miele for that matter, we sanction Miele products for the most part. Soon enough they will twig that we are less than happy with their modus operandi and that can leave the path open and clear for later negotiation.
The ‘subtle’ approach to that issue is now well under way and if UKW can bag Miele as a service partner or whatever they choose to call it, the better for all of us. 💡
Now if you are a big Miele dealership they cooperate hand over fist allowing many to service the products they sell and/or empart technical information. Proving at least they can cooperate when it suits them. 😉
UKW must try to maintain a respectable mediation approach (if you like?) with Miele in order to secure a friendly, helpful and above all, cooperative standpoint for future negotiations.

KeymasterSorry, that wasn’t from the same guy Martin, that was from someone else wanting to tout wares on here. We get a few a month asking usually and most either get rejected or don’t pan out.
Ethics and morals. 😉
