ModeratorJust received this e-mail, anyone else had one?
The thing is I have never replied to a Miele post. Never even touched a Miele machine.
Hi Jim,
I’ve been reading through your posts on the UK Whitegoods forum and
would like to make what I hope you’ll find a rather interesting
proposition. We’re in the process of launching a whitegoods website containing the
latest news, reviews and consumer opinion called ‘Miles Better’ and from
reading through your contributions on the site I’ve noticed that you’re
something of an authority on Miele and appliances in general. We hope to feature ten or so ‘experts’ on the new site along with a
brief profile about people who know their stuff and who could act as a
reliable, informed source of information and opinion for those looking
for genuine consumer opinion. If you’re interested in participating please contact me for further
information.I hope to hear from you soon.
Best Regards,
Simon.
Jim.

I know about it.
Basically it’s a PR company for Miele who think that our independent opinion on the products are of value.
They asked permission to link to UKW and to contact some members regarding Miele products to which I said…

I would reply with a suitable reply, maybe they’ll get the message or do you want me to mail him and say I’ve had complaints?

Already sent a polite reply, wasn’t a complaint really, just making sure it was kosher. 🙂

I’d be asking what they’re going to pay for your input. 😉
Bugger it, Miele are paying them to do the promotion.

Bollocks to it…
ME! 😀 wrote:Hi Simon,
I am aware that you’ve contacted a few of the guys as they were a bit surprised about it.
You do understand the politics of Miele don’t you within the industry and that you are asking repairers to comment on them?
Basically we acknowledge that Miele are superb products, very few issues with that at all, but that Miele will not give out any technical information or help to the trade. Nor will they offer any trade discount from their ludicrous spares prices. Both of which kinda puts repairers off in a big way.
Just so you know.
K.
That should make his day I’m sure. 😉

KeymasterI haven’t had a drink… yet. 😉
I just got kinda hacked off at it TBH as that’s not the gist of what he was saying and you can bet you’re ass that Miele’s marketing dudes are paying them a fortune to do this. Meanwhile they wanna use you guys as cheap independent or free recommendation. The only reason for which is the quality of advice given out on here.
But, fact is, if he’s going to mislead me then what’s he going to do to others?
In some ways I suppose it’s flattering but in others it’s a bit annoying as I don’t want to see you guys taken advantage of by the big nasty marketing company.
He’s obviously read some of my posts though as I wasn’t asked. 😉

Its never going to happen K.
We love UKW and in a way, yes it is flattering to be asked because maybe just maybe they are jealous/astounded and cannot reproduce (on their own) what we have as a”family” ie loyality/honour and unitedness ❓Greg

Oh I’m not worried about what you guys want to do, you’re big and bad enough to look after yourselves quite happily. No, I’m worried that they don’t get what they think they will as I just know that, if someone asks about servicing costs you lot would sink them deeper than the Titanic.
It’s marketing companies that act as guns for hire, Chris will have dealt with them at Comet I’m sure, they waltz in thinking they know everything without doing proper research. And, for an outsider to understand the appliance repair industry, is nigh on impossible without some guidance.
Anyway, bugger it, they’ve been paid to do it, I don’t see why you guys shouldn’t be.
As for this upsetting the spirit of UKW, I don’t think so. I think it’d take a lot more than that.

As the e-mail was a polite request I answered in a similar vein, can’t remember the exact words but, ‘never touched a Miele, complete lack of technical support and ridiculous spares prices’ may have crept in, ” all in the best possible taste” of course. 😆
Edit, and that was well before I read Ken’s post above. 😉
Jim.
