    Re: no work

Repaired and returned the two dishwashers this afternoon from another post. New element in the neff and a tub repair to the bosch.

Found that just under the stainless filter that sits flush with the base there seemed to be tiny chips in the very left corner, one so bad it was a pin hole right through, this pinhole was pis{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}ing out underneath, however after discussion with the customer it was ruled out that i persumed she was “lifting” the filter off with a pointed knife or a fork ( to save her long nails ) But she assured me she never does this.

Anyone else found this problem on bosch or any other dishwasher for that matter? certainly looked like “strike” marks from a sharp implement.

The element on the neff gave a little bother but sorted in the end.

Had a ariston built in w/m with a blocked pump and same customer needs a new element in the d/w.

Thats all weve had this week.

Yes u read it right, i uplifted a d/w that turned out too be a damn pin prick of a hole in the base, however looking inside while running it was pouring down in there, so i took away and stripped it, found absolutle zilch until i lifted the filter as it was running alll over the underbase of the machine through the black lagging thats slapped all over ( heat shield i assume )
I had to chip a lot of it away to trace the water within and found the pinhole from underneath ( if only i’d lifted the damn filter )

Anyway its a one for the book of things to look out for. must be wafer thin these casings.

Quite common on BSH machines, I think I read that it is caused by spilt salt corroding the tub. 😕

This fact has got a good number of guys talking so far, and I’m no exception I must admit. Now, working the rough estimated maths on this and using a mean average of 8 calls a days at (say?) £40 per call*, maybe?….that’s £320 in the back pocket each day. Jim says it eases off at the weekends so lets just say he maybe does another 6 calls over that period (roughly?) then that’s a fabulous total of £1,840 per week! 😯

And statistically June & July are proven to be the quietest months of the entire year….then the mind boggles at what a good week can bring up in the greater Manchester area?:?

(*including parts average of 33{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}, as many calls don’t require parts fitting.

Well your maths are a little conservative for yesterday and today, but they were two very good days 🙂

Some days feature more unproductive calls though. If I BER a machine I do not make any charge, a decent percentage of them go on to buy an ISE machine, a venture that is proving very fruitful indeed now that the earliest machines are over three years old.

I would guess that my call out/labour charge is around 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} less than the Berkshire average as well. 😉

As I mentioned elsewhere, there is still a very large Hotpoint/Hoover ownership in this area which still accounts for almost 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of my work.

I did say it tailed off ‘towards the weekend’ not at the weekend though. For some reason I find that if I am quiet on Monday/Tuesday then I am usually busy Thursday/Friday/Sat.

Like everyone else I do get the odd quiet week, can’t remember when I last had less than four calls in any one day though.

The frustrating thing is it always seems to coincide with all of the bills coming at the month end. 😥

IDL500 today with a pin hole at the side of the salt cap, possibly a fault in the stainless or it’s not of high enough spec.

Hi everyone Plymouths quiet with chargeable work the phone rings and all goes well untill i mention the call out charge, most people here want free estimates & no call out charge ! good luck to them , but id rather stay at home and work for nothing . Admittedly Plymouth has taken a hit with job losses, so i think people are being more carefull when spending money

I have been called to one of these before. It was leaking through the spay arm seal. Took it home so I could have a look, nothing much different to a d/w. Apart from the mist maker! a cylindrical device about a foot long. Also this machine had a syphon style pump which sucked in the detergent when needed! The company was a chineese restaurant that had inhereited the machine, trying to explain they simply placed a bucket of detergent next to the machine and drop a hose in was fun!!!

If in doubt take it to a the workshop, it’s fun learning how new things work. I think thats why i enjoy my job! If calls are quiet, I’ll try anything, I have repaired a PS3 before with no exp. Internet is the best tutor in the world 😛

Indeed. Waste of time sending kids to school, beyond teaching them to use a PC.

From me this is gonna sound strange but, I don’t agree.

The internet is like a calculator, it’s a great addition and an incredibly powerful tool if used correctly. But, unless you know what it means and how to filter and interpret the results it’s a bit like handing a caveman a car, useless.

You can give anyone all the information you like in whatever format you want but unless there is the knowledge and thought process to figure how to use that, it’s utterly worthless.

    Re: no work

Well Ken, I did say, “beyond teaching them to use a PC”. By which I meant that in my noble opinion 😆 , it IS worth teaching them to use a computer, but once you’ve done that, let them free to explore. Teaching them to use a computer could, as you suggest, include teaching them to use the internet “wisely”. So it does seem that you are after all agreeing with me.
My main point is that, these days , and it was ever thus since the idea of education for all was brought in, school suits some kids but not others. But they all have to go, like it or lump it. That leads to a lot of bored and disillusioned kids who pay us back by running amok once they’re let out. Half or more of them ending up branded as failures; when in fact every child has potential in one direction or another.
What is the point of teaching thirty kids in a bundle the same thing all together when they want to learn thirty different things? And you don’t really learn anything well unless you want to learn it. Thirty (or thirty million) people with different skills can create a better world than thirty/million people all with the same skill set (national curriculum)learned with varying degrees of enthusiasm.
    Mike.
