There were loads this afternoon so I tracked down the IP of the site that all the links were pointing to, googled the IP and there were a load of bloggs out there showing forums having a similar issue as we were. A lot of these guys are red hot on this sort of thing and more than happy to share their wisdom, I took some wisdom and blocked a load of IP’s, plus the word “p-o-k-e-r” is banned ( I can’t type it properly otherwise it’ll show as an exlamation mark).
See what happens I guess 😉

Still a few coming in I’m afraid. They now say things like
“Holdem !”
and
“! Draw”So if nothing else they look ridiculous.

Just a small thought (having splatted another one) – the only reason we’re staying on top of this is because of the scrolling XML, otherwise the lower down, unused posts would be filling up with this crap and we’d never know.

Yes Chris to an extent, it would still show as a new post and bump it up to the top within a given forum though so we’d still see it. The scrolling box just makes it faster and easier to deal with it.
I Just cleared another five from memory. 😕
I think I’ll ban some more words. 😉

I just go into forums, look at posts since last visit and look for the stupid email addresses as usernames

Now it’s becoming fun the name ban tool is most handy as you can replace banned words with anything you like

Yeah, I deleted a load earlier.
One problem I have now though is they’ve got smarter, all (or a lot) of the words in the spam posts could well be used in every day postings so I can’t “sensor” those 👿
I did a couple earlier but sadly sensoring a phrase doesn’t work, only individual words.
There will be a solution, and Trevor is the man, they are from Mexico and Brazil but seem to use “creative” ip’s so blocking them doesn’t work for very long…

Will it do word groups Dave? Or just single words? If it does word groups, we should be able to deal with it – most of what’s in this damn message is non-grammatical – is anyone going to post “Mortgage payment calculator” as a phrase relevant to an appliance problem, for instance?
