Participanthi guys back about six week i went to repair a proline tumble dryer. model TDV62 which needed a new belt. i am after getting a call to say the drum has stopped turning a new belt has to last longer than six weeks. and if the belt has broken again what would be the cause would over loading cause the belt to break. thanks fasetester.

thanks simonb for your reply does the bearings come as a kit front and back. is the front a felt bearing and have the to be glued on. before i left the had it loaded like a cement mixer and i though i could here it make a scraping sound. does the bearing make for a good repair is there not a mod of a different drum if the bearing have gone would the drum be hard to turn and jam up. thanks fasetester

thanks brian for your reply does every kit come with the back and the front bearing. is the front glued on or does it just sit in to the recess some kits just have the bearing plate pin and other ones pop rivets is this a handy job thanks fasetester 🙂

you get front felt, bearing pads, shaft, rear bearing, pin, rear seal (I dont fit this) and new screws to attach the shaft to drum.
I don’t think (but not 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}) this will fit to a drum with the shaft/plate riveted.
As I said I have done quite a few of these and its just about the same amount of work as the belt fit.Drum out fix the kit and rebuild
If you check on your supplier site you will see a pic of it.
There is a good pic on here which shows all the parts in the kit.
good luck

Participantoh and by the way
if the dryer was manufactured before feb 06, then the drums too big for the drier, and thats usually the reason the belt breaks a lot
you can usually tell, if when you take the drum out, you can see where its been scraping on the back panel, behind the motor over the top of the fans, its really obvious, youul see a big scrape markyou could try fitting washers behind the shaft to push it forward, other than that, its a new drum, part number 170662… around £60 +v.a.t
they really are a rubbish dryer, and are nothing more than a hotpoint vtd00/ indesit is60v in disguise

thanks helo 75 for your reply i went to see it today sure enought the belt had broken again. there is a lot of play and movement in the front of the drum. does the drum jam with the load and the motor shaft burn throught the belt. so if the dryer is pre 06 the bearing kit would make no
differience or would it cure the problum. or the only cure a new drum or dryer when you push the drum back it scrapes on the back panel what tumble dryer would you guys recommend for a fairly big family. thanks fasetester

The only real cure is a better dryer…. Personally, I’d refund her and run away, otherwise you’ll never be shot of the cursed thing.

Have to agree to some extent with Chris.
If I were in your shoes I would agree to replace bearings and belt at reduced cost but explain to her that they were a poor design, she may then agree to cut her costs and replace machine.Good luck

Participantdoesnt matter what belt you fit
1701658 / 1703666 / pattern , as long as thyere all 1860 in length
they all snap, i fit probably 8-10 a week
theyre just too tight, a couple of jockey pulleys is the easy cure, but hey, they must save around £1.50 per dryer so some accountant would have said it was ok
itlll always be a numbers game, and until people realise that cheap isnt the best option, things will continue to be built cheaply, but more importantly badly
cant remember the last time i fixed a zanussi dryer
