Quality Tamperproof Torx/Security Torx bit sets

Hi I’m after a quality set of security torx bit sets. A bit like this one but I want a quality item.

This one is a lot better quality but I want the bits seperate.

Bit sick of buying whole kits when you only part of it… any help would be appreciated.

The Halfords ones are Chinese made, they normally come with a lifetime g/tee though, just be sure to keep your receipt. I had one of these that snapped off and they replaced the whole kit.

A set of 7 torx bits at under 2 quid and you’re looking at rubbish TBH.

Quality starts at more than twice that price and only covers just 1 bit not 7 😯

A typical T20 bit in that category costs at least £4 and we’re talking a choice of either SNAP-On or BRITOOL here….OK? 🙂

I always use King Dick and their stuff is the dogs……. 😆 but order from a tool stockist in Poole. had their ratchets and sockets for over 20 years and never let me down.

Teng are quality and have a lifetime guarantee, I have recently bought a 48 piece set which inludes all the sockets you need, whitworth, Torx, Philps etc etc and is quarter inch.

Only ever use snap on lifetime guarantee break it they replace for free and if buy loads like we do get to pay weekly 😆

If you want a reasonably priced set, try your nearest Machinemart.
They do a 1/4″ drive set for £7.99, Covers TT10 – TT40 in a holder with double ended right angle driver. Had mine for about 4 years & still going strong. 🙂
If you want the bits individually try http://www.cpc.co.uk they normally stock the Wera brand bits used by the German Army & C.K

Dont i know it! was sick of snapping bits doing Hotpoint & Zanussi bearing jobs (spoils the profit margin 😉 ) so ‘invested’ in a Halfords pro set with lifetime guarantee :rolls:
Very first outing trying to undo that tight (admittedly hellish tight & sealed with threadlock stuff) Torx pulley bolt on a late Zanussi, & the fekkin thing snapped with relative ease, leaving me with a machine in bits & no time that day to storm back to Halfrauds.. professional my arse!! as Jim Royale might say 😉

I bought a Machine Mart set a few years ago and like their bearing puller set are made of toffee. I then bought an impact set thinking that if it’s good enough to be used with an impact driver, then it’ll survive a simple ratchet. Not so, and some chopped knuckles to prove it. “No – one else has ever had problems with these” was the inevitable quote on returning them to the shop.
Yeah, sure you haven’t……. 😈

Hi Steve: Which bit set are you talking about? the normal 1 or the Gold coloured 1? As I said earlier mine are still going strong after 4 years of use. Not had any problem with the Clarke Pro bearing puller set either, had that about 2 years now.
Maybe i’m just lucky. 🙂

Going for individual Wera bits – couldn’t find a set that suited my needs without buying lots of bits I have never used before and not likely to use and already have lots of.

Just got a bit stuck today. was trying to undo bottom plate on a CDA dw. 3 weeks it had been flooded and as I managed to tilt it and get some of the rancid water (thick soup like) out, I found out why it was so rancid. A mouse had died and was stuck to the base and has started to decay in the water, when I exposed it to the air it was putryfying…….

So there I am struggling to undo the screw that didn’t want to move, the bit broke and the lady of the house raising her voice more by the minute…
eventually used an allen key, hubby took the base plate outside and got rid of the mouse….

Absolutely loads of droppings coupled with the stagnant water was not too pretty… I hate those big Askoll pumps…. never mind, it’ll be fixed shortly. It’s been a long time since I’ve had to stand at the door of our house and strip to my undies and straight in the shower

Ahh, you mean the dinky gold ones with the little handle together in a green socket holder!! Yes, they last quite well – had a couple of sets of those. The ones I was refering to were 3/8″ drive in a grey metal case. The Torx 40 used on Ariston / Indesit metal drum spiders killed them in 2 goes. The ends twisted up like marshmallow cables. :rolls:
When I took them back the chap at Machine Mart tried to tell me I had “forced” them. Uhh? I put them on the socket handle and turned them; the problem lies in the fact that the bolt didn’t turn at the same time. But “Pondlife Pete” behind the counter was not having any of it. His manager saw that a simple refund was probably the best way of saving him from being impaled on said Torx fitting. Refund – Thank you!!
Mind you, I still haven’t found a good set myself – but asking motor mechanics and the like for advice all say the same – Snap On.

P.S. My Machine Mart bearing puller failed on the first job – removing a 6205ZZ Zanussi bearing from a small drum shaft. So I had to use the Chinese made one I had had since my car resto days. (£4 from a cheap tool shop). Removed the bearing with ease. I doubt it was made by Haier though…….. 😉

Ah: The penny drops, now I know what you mean they are complete & utter C$^P. Must be made of the poorest metal on the planet.
My 3/8″ drive set came from an open air market £9.00 goes up to T70 & is superb, used it to take hubs from cars etc and still perfect. Just goes to prove that it’s not allways the most expensive kit that’s the best quality.

Over the Years Iv Snapped Loads Of Torxs New ones Strait Away On bearing jobs or en did Up Rounding The Head Of The Torx Bolt
it Messes The Job Up And U end up Putting In Loads of Time.
And The Impact Driver Is No Good
The Only way I Could Get Round This On the Job.

I Purchased a nice Little Blowlamp From my Local Plum Centre
if you Flash Some Heat On The Bolt Wait 3 Seconds Have Your Torx bit And Driver Ready And Gloves (HOT) Turn The Bolt Slightly If Tight Repeat The Second Time.
Don’T Forget to remove The Paddles.
