Funnily enough the advice on the TV front was avoid Samsung at all cost… 😆
Good choice  I like them for the superior sound generator they have and the EPG is the best I`ve come across.Don

My Admiral GC2224GEKB has just broken down unfortunately so I need to replace it. I dont really have the option to change to a different style of fridge as the kitchen was built to have an american style fridge in it and the space would look odd with anything else there. It’s a gap one metre wide exactly.
It’s a shame as I dont think it was that old but was in the house when I bought it. Apparantly the fan at the rear became jammed causing heat to build up and a pipe to crack letting the refridgeration gas escape.
Any suggestions for a replacement? I was hoping to spend as little as possible but having read these forums that does not look like a good idea.
I can probably spend up to a thousand (maybe more at a push). What are my options? Is there any other style that would fill a gap that size?
Thanks in advance.

Hi
What size of gap please ?
Might well be worth readingOur buying guide on American fridge freezers.
Then perhaps this thread and for good measure this thread they will give you a good insight into this sector of the market 😉

Hi
Just a thought..Why could’nt the engineer repair the pipe ?.This would be a far cheaper repair than a replacement appliance.

Hi
Most of the American fridge freezers are between 890mm and 905mm so you should have no problem with the width issue.
As far as brands are concerned unless you purchase a GE machine circa £1500 and up, whatever else you purchase someone will have had an issue with it of some sorts. There are plenty of stories within this forum covering a multitude of brands of peoples woes.
I still like the Admiral range of products for what it is worth 😉 as they are “American” as opposed to the “Korean clones” currently being sold at silly prices.

Apparently they’re all being changed over to the Italian Whirlpool ones Don. 😕

Thanks for the tips.
Who stocks Admiral at the moment who do a good 5yr warrantee?
Looking at Ogormans website they do the MAYTAG MC2028HXKB for just over a grand with a 5 yr manufacturers guarantee. Any good?
edit. In fact just found it at appliance city for £899 delivered… Has anyone used them before?

I bought my Whirlpool from them back when they were Bunny Domestic Appliances, had no issues with them, but I was a ‘real’ inshop customer not ‘online’ but they delivered when they said they would and got the unit in the house with no problems. 😀
They was a small issue with the machine on inspection but this was sorted out with no issues and I can’t really blame the retailer for selling me something that in 5 years has come to the end of it’s useful life. :rolls:January 20, 2009 at 10:28 am #273980DanH

That’s good to hear. They seem to get some good reviews from other people too.
Just need some advice on whether the Maytag is worth looking at. Am I right in thinking they are from the same stable as Admiral?

This thread started by raceboy on American fridge freezers is well worth a read 😉
Within that thread, this post may be the one which helps you decide 😉

Thanks for the threads to read Don. It’s all very frustrating having to spend so much on something that wont be that good.
It’s quite apparant that really I need to be spending more on an American Fridge freezer than I can afford to.
The kitchen is designed around one though so my options are fairly limited. See below.

It looks like I will just have to take my chances with something like the Maytag (or as I understand it possibly Whirlpool) for £900 with the 5yr warrantee and hope for the best.
