ModeratorThose of you that have been following this will be aware that after 4th July 2009 you will be breaking the law if you carry out repairs on R134a and other HCFC refrigerants. However, if you work on equipment having a total refrigerant charge of less than 3Kg then you can apply for an ‘interim personnel certificate’ which will allow you to continue working on such equipment until 2011.
It given me great pleasure to announce that the Whitegoods Trade Association has been approved by the Secretary of State and DEFRA to issue this certificate to those having suitable experience. This experience can be in the form of a letter from an employer or alternatively if you are self employed, some form of evidence from a work provider.
Once the WTA server is back on-line I will get the application form sorted for download and indicate the full details and requirements.June 13, 2009 at 8:24 am #289023SAMURI

Thank you I was not sure if it had been changed again as the E U can never make their minds up.

My safe handling runs out in September so deciding whether to take the f gas 3kg one while I’m at it as thats around £520ish and will last a while or just repeat the safe handling which is a 1 day renewal.
This in between certificate is good news though so thanks for that Dales, much appreciated.

Cost of the interim certificate from the WTA is £35 all in. This gives you a certificate and an id card. This will cover you as stated earlier until 2011 by which time I guess R134a will be out of the way.

Dales hi
This is brilliant news. I have two guys whom were going to use DASA for this interim certificate but we will now use you.
Let me know ASAP when the forms are available for download so we can get this sorted.
Well done Whitegoods Trade Association.

Jackal,
The application forms will be on the site later today or early tomorrow as soon as Ken has a minute. Sadly Defra left it until the last minute to approve the WTA so things will be abit hectic until the 4th July ‘last calls deadline’
Please accept my thanks for the advice about MFI and the legal issues.
