Shoudl we have one as has been suggested?

There has been a great deal of talk about the promotion of Repairs@ and we reckon that if everyone on there was prepared to join in the cost could be as low as £25 per year. Now that just has to be worth a go doesn’t it?

At least if we try it we can see if it’s worth investing more into at a later date, but as a group we can do one hell of a lot more than individually.

you can hardly advertise in the local rag for a week for that money. well worth the investment IMO.

    Repairs@ forum?

    Am I being stupid?

Do you mean a seperate forum that would cost money to run?

I think he means everyone on Repairs@ chips in towards the cost of advertising Repairs@, such as in Yell.com

Yep, that’s exactly what we were discussing the other day and, with the amount of correspodence that Kevin & I got over it, I thought I’d ask the question since it was suggested.

Yell dot com?..You are actually suggesting we pay money to those robbing bar-stewards to advertise UKW’s repairs@???????????

Quote John McEnroe : “You cannot be serious!!!”

Can I suggest that if repairs@ was giving a full ‘keywords’ blurb on the UKW homepage, Google would pick that up in days and work will flood in …for nowt!

To hell with them and please don’t give £25 of my money to them OK? 👿

Of that I had absolutely no doubt Bryan. 😉

Kevin may have something to post in the “Look What You’re Missing” thread later as I cleared it down today again. Makes for interesting reading, but I’ll leave it to Kevin to post on.

    Re: Repairs@ Forum?

Whilst I agree with your sentiments towards Yell or Yellow Pages Martin, simple facts tell us that it should generate approximately 6500 additional visitors, per month! They will even give us a full statistical analysis to back that up and evaluate it, which I can check against the referrals.

So okay, it costs money and, quite frankly, I don’t have the budget available to promote us in that for the foreseeable future.

But I’d have to guess that, out of a potential 78,000 or more visitors that I’m liable to get an extra couple of calls a year, which would cover the cost quite nicely thank you.

On a bangs-per-buck basis. I don’t think we can do much better to kick off with.

I don’t wish to argue over the projected ‘stats’ you estimate in this regard. In fact it does sound very impressive indeed that such would be possible. That’s got to be a good thing for sure. 🙂

OK, here’s another point to consider….the ‘hole’ in our coverage perhaps may be a problem? 😕

I have the stats sat on my desk Martin. 😉

As for the cover, let’s just say that we’ve kinda thought about that.

The ‘hole’ could be problem; and I agree with Martin that Yell.com’s prices are almost extrosion. 🙁

But I think it’s worth it.

I also have a little bit of fresh insider info that might help.

    Apparently, alledgedly, IMO, eg, eg….

Thompson directory has a deal with google to link to their website.

BT are trying to get a deal with yahoo, for their phone book/website, and they are about to sort the website and saturate the internet with adverts, but no TV advertising.

But, at the moment, Yell.com is easily the most well known.

    Re: Repairs@ Forum?

    To put this into perspective…

I think that a lot of people are switching to using the internet to find local services, it’s quick, it’s easy and often more accurate. Almost without exception anyone who has been advertising in the traditional Yellow Pages is either seriously questioning the value, reduced the size/cost or has dropped it altogether, I’ve not seen any glowing reports, especially in respect to this industry, for a long, long time now.

It will not surpass an ad in the local rag/s as the people that look there will likely always look there, but we’re more interested in the new, richer, people that just want a quick and easy solution. What is surprising from a little map that Dave did this afternoon, is that it’s not just London that’s being hit, it’s all over the UK.

For a measly £25 a year we can give it a go, I don’t think that any of us could question a trial for twelve full months for £25, we spend more on a night down the pub (well most of us anyway ;)). The point is, it’s extremely low risk with a possible decent return for the investment, such as it is.

Should other services come online, we’ll look at them, see what’s on offer and what we’ve got and then see what we want to do by concensus. But that is just my take on how we should do things.

    Re: Repairs@ Forum?

    Martin,

holes in our repairer coverage disappear fast. Just today we have had 7 applicants, helping to eliminate the “holes”.

We know where we have holes and are successfully filling them, hand over fist, by our unique methods. Leave it to us to ensure we can provide the cover needed.

    Re: Repairs@ Forum?

I don’t know if there is any merit to this suggestion. A number of companies that are on repairs@ are also UKW subscribers. What if the contribution towards yell.com advertising for those companies was to come from this pot. This would mean there would be no initial cost for them, but it could lead to an increased number of calls being recieved through repair@. Unless some other avenue has been decided on for this money it seems to me it would be worth a go. Obviously it would need some consideration because the subscibers shouldn’t be expected to foot the whole bill for this, but at least if it paid for their contribution then thats at least a step in the right direction.
