re ressurecting the topic.
Have come across this many times myself, including ariston and hotpoint branded machines. Just completed a PAT course, and Yes an industry standard finger (i should get one for the back of my van).
As per the costcutting, if they cut any more costs on these machines, they will really only be able to sell these as true colanders. not that they arnt already that !!
Has anyone actually come across an `old` current design dishwasher. The oldest i`ve come across is 5 years.
That i have to say is the most reliable bit about them, the fact that when you get to the job you already know there`s gonna be a very happy scrap man out there.
Good old Merloni. Reliable and safety conscious, as always.

Spookily enough I went to a slimline Indegunk (DG6145WG) today where the door catch had gone belly up. I noticed it too had no protection across the base either 🙁
No word from Trading Standards as yet on this (ever hopeful of course 🙄 )
Meanwhile be careful where you stick your fingers now OK???? :zap:

Well my friend at Trading Standards did in fact email me today and here is a copy of his statement:-
Hi Martin,
I have finally had a response from Indesit, via my colleagues in Peterborough, regarding the issue you raised.
Apparently the matter was referred back to Italy for investigation and the Company now accept that there was a technical breach of the Regulations .
Modifications have subsequently been made to the design and the issue has now been corrected on current production.
Discussions have also taken place regarding existing m/cs with this fault.
The Company have advised us that this was not a safety critical fault as when the dishwasher door is opened all power to the accessible exposed wiring is ,in fact, cut off and therefore there is no risk of electrocution to the user.
The only part that remains live is the microswitch which activates the overflow sensor switch and this only powered at 5 volts.
Given that this information is correct ( and please let me know if you disagree) we are therefore of the opinion that no recall or remedial program is necessary as there is a negligible risk of injury.
I therefore intend to leave the matter at this point and I am grateful to you for bringing it to our attention.Best regards Rick.
Does anyone have any further comments to make on the issue I wonder?

Nice one Martin.
The only bit I have a problem understanding is why they changed the design on current production to resolve the issue if, as they say, there is no risk with them.Brian

Assuming the live feed is unbrocken along it’s path from the terminal block to the switch, the only time it could ever become “live” is if it were damaged ?
What about the dangers of kids cutting themselves, houshold pets (kittens :zap: ) getting in there and becoming trapped once the door is closed.
Dave.
