They have done 2 major checks on vans around here this last year.Several were cought out,big thing in local paper. If you go more than a couple of times to scrap yards around here, they insist on a licence

besides, its a not a question of whether the license is necessary based on the return value from the scrap, its necessary for the retailer who wants to do well. from my own experience, old appliance removal is a key factor in customers buying from us because we dont charge to take the old non-ref appliance away like many other retailers do.
also i think youll find the council make a fair wedge of cash from their own collection service – £35 for a pick up – 1-3 machines if that was a washer dryer and dw then when they sell off the scrap thats an extra tenner too. i dont believe the council workers are on any more than £6-7 an hour either…
although the smarter customers are now cottoning on to and askign for a discount if we take the old machine away… cheeky :snig:

Scrap prices must be on the up.
I left a scrap machine outside the customers house whilst I installed the new one this morning and somebody nicked it :eeek:
Left me the packaging though.

You get the Licence from the Environment Agency .. but .. as far as I am concerned the parts have far more value than the scrap.

What I Found Out A Couple of Years Ago IM About 15 Miles From The Main Scrap Depo its on The Shipping Docks.
When That Ship is Due To Arrive to Take This Scrap to China The Price They Were Paying Went Through The Roof £450.00 A Ton. As Soon As This Ship Left Town The Price Was Back Down To £120 A Ton.The Quicker They Can Fill This Ship The Less he Pays In Docking Charges Hence The Price Went Up.
so If You can Save It The More You Will Get At The rite time.Garn
