A aquaintance of mine bought a WT761G from a woman on ebay.

He didn’t realise that there were two types ‘Sealed drum with FTP motor’ and ‘Split drum with 3 Phase motor’.
It turns out that he had bought the sealed drum version and the bearings were knackered, so he sold me the two boards and the motor for £25 to recover his costs. Anyway, I was looking on Qualtex and it looks like they supply the front half for the drum… Does this mean that the drum is recoverable? If so … how is it rebonded?

    George

Edit… no… Soz.. Bad picture or bad eyesight.. This drumfront has holes for screws.

Sounds a bit unlikely. Are you sure you got the right part?

What drum is in the welded one… Is that recoverable if you split the outer drum from it?

    Re: Sealed drums recovery

I don’t think there are two types.

The WT761 is shown on Partfinder and elsewhere as 3 phase motor/split drum only. It does not have a welded drum unless someone has been trying to bodge it before selling it.

The garbage sold on Fleabay is amazing, keep well away myself.

    Jim.

    PS.

If you post links to Qualtex it always reverts to their homepage for non account holders. 😉

    Re: Sealed drums recovery

When he gave me the board and motor I put the board number into QER and it came up as a WT741 …. Searching further through google the number came up as a WT761G board…

Definately sealed 7kg drum, I took the drum off him for further investigation. Motor was a ‘UOZ 112 G 55’.

Both the board and the motor were defiately not 3 phase types.

He took the number from the facia… Even gave me the book that came with it although that gave no model number that I could see.

But if you have a board reference there Jim, I could get you the number tomorrow.

    Re: Sealed drums recovery

Don’t have anything like board reference numbers but the WT761 on all of the sources I have access to is listed as 3 phase/welded drum only.

There are a few versions of the WT741, some with sealed drums, some with split drums, some with 3 phase motors, some not.

What he/you have is a WT741, or “should have gone to Specsavers” 😆

Simple fact is there is no repair to a welded drum

    Re: Sealed drums recovery

Proberbly… I don’t have muct to do with the welded versions … only when he said he had made the mistake I though I would help him out by buying the spares off him.. I certainly didn’t loose out no matter what model it is… however, I was curious about the welded drums and salvage capabilities.

    I thought the WT741 wasa 6kg sealed… This is definately a 7kg.

Do you know if the inner drum can be reused at all?

Sounds like a typical Fleabay cut & shut job, had a couple of customers that bought machines off fleabay & all have been cr*p.

    Re: Sealed drums recovery

The inner drum and for that matter the drum spider if it is not damaged can both be ‘recycled’

Thing is, when was the last time you actually needed an inner drum for one of these.

I can honestly say I have never, ever had to order a new inner drum for a WMA type of machine.

I’ve had a few that have been well out of balance/warped, as if someone had been washing bricks, but I havn’t yet had to replace a 7kg drum inner.

    Re: Sealed drums recovery

I have started to make a database of what boards I get from what models and likewise with the motors.

I know board-wise, reprogramming will be an isse, but the motor database will become a handy utility.
