Keymasterhi ive read some of the threads on your forum and the moderators know there stuff
i wonder if you could solve a puzzle for me
my washing machine wouldnt spin so i took the back off and checked the most obvious things like :-
brushes – only a year old they were fine
filter – fine it was clear
pump – working fine no blockages
air pressure switch – seems fine (clicks when i blow up the pipe)
air capsule – clear
all the pipes on the machine & the drain pipe are all clearthe only thing i could find wrong was that where the hot & cold water pipes enter the machine they join at a ‘y’ piece . this a little hole in it and was leaking water, ive replaced this and the machine does every thing else apart from spin, ive tried it empty half full, but it wont spin,
warranty was up 1 month ago
any ideas 🙁 🙁 🙁
cheers

KeymasterThanks for the comments, we try.
Do you mean the internal grey hose, looks like corrugated plastic pipe with a rubber “Y” in it?
If so there is a chance that water has run down onto the motor which would most likely have blown the module. On some there’s only one resistor that goes, generally, that costs a few pence to replace and can be obtained from the likes of RS Components etc. Sorry, I don’t have the information to hand here on what’s in it, but the module part number is on the label, should start 546*******.
Hope that helps.

cheers k you hit the nail on the head i think
if i take the module off and test all the resistors with an ohm meter until i fnd a dud one, replace it and put it back together should it work theoretically ? 🙄 🙄 🙄September 2, 2004 at 2:10 pm #115997kwatt
KeymasterThere’s usually only one that fails, one of the big white ones, I forget the value. But if it ain’t that you’ll likely need a replacement module. 🙁

think might be 7.2kohms or something like that cant remember long day! best to de-solder them first to check resistance if not might be the triac little black thing with three legs strapped to the side of silver heat sink failling that definatly the board if thats of any help 😉 but really should advise to get someone in to look

Just to be clear the two resistors are 6.2k @ 7w. But before we go to this area, does the machine agitate backwards and forwards all the way through the spin cycle, or is it just not spinning at all??

nowadays some of these modules are much more complicated than the odd dry joint.
They don’t like earth leakages and react to water shorts very badly indeed. So please provide the 546****** number on the label attached to the module, there’s also numbers like DMPDC (r5/55 ect)or mini sel(dc) which will help us identify and advise a course of action for you.
We will be able to help.kheath

Hello there!
I went to a call to a servis with the same fault as yours, and as our other guys say, Was the white resistor on the control mod at the back. Very simple to replace, as long as you’re competent and safe with soldering!

thanks for replies lads.
firstly i dosent kick into fast spin at all it just idles round until the end of the programme.
and secondly k, i took the module off and it seems to have been wet at some point as i can see little spots of rust here and there on some of the solder, methinks knackered, but here are the details you asked for mateelmarc ancona i
h8
220 – 240 v/50 Hz
1000 rpm
DMPU /42 R5
2/09/2002
546021401 3715It may be knackered and water did get onto the motor too, but didnt enter any further than the bearings which i cleaned up and seems to be ok
can you get a module like this k or should i try and repair this one
what do you think mate 🙁 🙁 🙁
cheers

hi technics1200 just seen your message, did water leak out of the pipe ad onto the module too mate
where can i get the resistor from mate, did servis supply you with one
cheers

hi kheath
im no expert mate but you would think that these machines would have waterproof covers on the electrical components to prevent things like this happening as im sure has happened to lots of them
servis bad design methinks
cheers mate

Sadly the old adage of “you gets what you pays for” applies here. 🙄
When they design to a standard, you get a Mercedes…
When they design to a price you get a Trabant.

stevie 😆 😆Yes it was a similar incident where water had leaked all the way from the dispenser in the machine on the motor and somehow splashed the board. Had to change motor in the end tho, as it was-a “tick-tick-ticking” and that werent good…
And resistors, can be bought from somewhere like Maplins, or RS. Or Try Here???

ParticipantWhoa chaps!
There are any number of reasons why the machine may not spin! These range from dodgy pressure switches (water level control) – maybe blocked or faulty switch, choked filters, earth leakage from heater (Oh yes..), inappropriate operation of out of balance circuitry, faulty motors – the list goes on.
Having read the thread, we appear to be looking at water damage. Water damage usually means a board replacement. If the ballast resistors have failed all that will happen is that the door will lock (timer function – not digiboard) and nothing else.
If you can eliminate all other components, the board will be the culprit, and I suggest you contact EMW in the directories with the 546 no. for an exchange replacement.
All of this is pointless if you don’t find the leak!
Whatever you get up to, pull the plug first……..
Unfortunately what kwatt said about you get what you pay for is especially true with regard to these machines. They just don’t any cheaper (apart from Indesit – which oddly enough come from the same parent company)!
Next time, spend the extra £50 and buy a Bosch! It’s worth it.
