ParticipantHi,
My Siemens oven trips the fuse when I use the selector switch. At «0» fuse is ok. Every other function trips the fuse, also the «light only» Anyone having at tip for faultfinding?December 21, 2019 at 8:04 am #465376Specialist01269
ParticipantIs it the MCB (Fuse) that trips out or the RCD (Main breaker) ?.

ParticipantUnfortunately its hard to say. It is a common fuse for both short circuit and earth fault.
EDIT: Have checked the manual for the fuse, and can confirm it is earth fault.

ParticipantI have also disconnected the upper and lower element and secured the cables. Fault still present, and tripping when activating the selector. I think maybe one of the circuit boards causes the problem?

ParticipantAre you sure that the RCBO manual indicates an Earth fault ?.

Moderatorif its an rcd that’s tripping it will be the one with the test button on it
most likely problem is an element failure and there seems to be 3 of them

ParticipantFrom the description it’s an RCBO rather than an RCD. So it serves both functions: Overcurrent and Earth leakage protection, agreed it’s much more likely to be an element at fault.

ParticipantThanks, I will try to disconnect all of them at the same time. But shouldnt the fuse trip only when elements are activated? Or is there any self diagnostic in the electronics? I live in Norway, so I am not sure of the difference and the function of the RCBO or RCD. What do the letters mean? Anyway, I have a automatic fuse, releasing for shortcircuit, overload and earthfault. According to the supplier, a white spot on the lower part of the fuse will turn blue when released for earthfault. So i am quite sure it is earth fault causing my problems.

ParticipantHi: As above an RCD detects earth fault current, An RCBO will detect earth fault current and also Overcurrent in the Live / Neutral circuit.
From your original description it appeared that the circuit breaker did trip when the elements were activated as you said everything was ok until you turned the selector switch on.December 21, 2019 at 9:46 pm #465384Gardenviking
ParticipantHm, I am sorry for my bad problem description. The selector switch has a postition for only light. The fuse trips at once, when moving the selector from «0» (top) At «0» there is only power to the clock and display.

Moderatoryou said you disconnected 2 elements so I would suspect the one you have not disconnected is the fault
you also said you disconnected upper and lower elements so its likely the fan element is at fault which is the only one still connected

ParticipantThanks! I did not know there was three of them…. Probably the blue and orange wire going down in the top at right? The orange direct from the selector. Disconnected the orange, and no fuse trip. But unfortunately no other functions. Maybe try to dismantle the element and heat dry it for some hours? And order new one?It would be great if I could get the oven up and running for christmas…

Moderatorunless its got damp I would doubt heating it would help
But
although I have not got the complete Enr number the model I looked up looks like you have 2 oven settings
fan oven which uses a circular element round the fan ( which I think is faulty)convection oven which uses the top and bottom elements. There may also be a fan convection position but you would have to check that
its highly likely if you disconnect the fan element and make sure the wires are insulated and cant touch anything that the convection oven will work

ParticipantHello again. Not so lucky. Disconnected all THREE elements, fault still present. Also disconnected the upper and lower fan, same same.

Moderatordid you disconnect both wire from the elements and fans ?
you should have 4 wires disconnected from red arrow
2 wires disconnected from yellow
and 2 wires from blueDave
