Could that mean that the belt has broken? Or could it be that the motor is knackered completely? Its not spinning at all at any stage of a cycle.

Appoligies in the first instance, ‘ref no pulling it out’ I suppose one of the dreaded fears on anyone in the white goods trade is some kitchen fitters looks a nice instalation to some of these guys, but no thought likewise if the appliance fails, you got someone out to check this fault, they may charge for time (time=money) or you could pull the appliance out yourself and take a peek.
Power off first :zap:
Hope this helps

If I might elaborate slightly……
Your appliance uses a carbon brush drive motor and is 10 years old – the brushes are a consummable item. 10 years is a damn good run! It’s not actually a fault, it’s a maintenance job. You might like to check this:

If you’re not confident, please get pro help – check the link in my signature. If investigating further please ensure the power is off.
The belt almost never breaks on these appliances, BTW 😀 .

For starters its GB/11. The belt being broken would make no difference as linerw said check brushes.

I’ve taken the motor out and not sure how to get the brushes out. I take it I don’t have to take the whole of the end of the motor off ?
There’s a spade connector on each brush which I can remove. But how do I get the brush out? Are there any push in tabs etc? The motor is a 3047807AA4 18A6765-0HB 230/240 50HZ.May 1, 2006 at 10:19 am #174524Penguin45

Have a close look at the tab the connectors push onto – there will be two little cutouts. With a pair of pointy pliers, push the tab across until the cut-outs line up with the brass tube, lift the tab, then ease it back to release the other end.
You will probably find that the brushes are slightly unequal in length and that one will have a shiny tip, whilst the other is dull black. That being the case, they are finished. They actually start out over an inch long and getting the new ones in against the spring pressure is much more fun 🙁 .

Exactly as you said. One of the brushes had obviously burnt out and both are worn down to near the brass. Just ordered some new ones so should be up and running in a few days. Many thanks.
