Added:
Off Topic Forum in the trade group.
This is for general chit chat and totally off-topic stuff, i.e. anything you want to discuss at all from Britney Spears to PCs the topic is irrelevant and just a bit of fun really. No real rules apply other thn my standard be nice rule. 😉
Changed:
Some of the trade forums where there is a crossover to some of the public ones I’ve prefixed with “Trade” so you can easily see where you are and whether it’s safe to discuss pricing etc.
I saw that some people were obviously getting confused by the public and trade spares forums so I hope that rectifies the issue and makes it easier to see what’s going on. I think this was caused by using the scrolling posts on the frontpage to jump to the forums and, to be fair, I didn’t clearly define them well enough, so that’s fixed.
Other stuff to follow.

Ken,
Are you checkin’ the page hit counter we are almost at a quarter of a million in just over six months. Would it be possible for me to buy a few shares 😆 😉
regards as ever DelDecember 14, 2003 at 2:11 pm #104050kwatt
KeymasterYes I had noticed it and we’re just on 6 months from the launch now and it never ceases to amaze me just how popular the site has become.
If you want bored read on….
We’ve been getting more and more hits from all over the world, many recently from Australia and the US (obviously) but quite a few from EU States as well. We’ve got a good few manufacturers looking in that have not signed up 🙁 and a good few that have 😀 and are looking in here. Hopefully they’re taking some of what we’re trying to say on board, or at least I hope so and using it in a positive and constructive manner.
We’ve been getting loads of hits from private individuals as well and it’s good to see some members of the public using the forums for enquiries. Please, if you feel you can answer those posts or sell from it then do so, that’s one of the reasons it’s there and if you can use the site and sell a part or a machine from it then do so as I don’t have a problem with that at all. Just play fair and be gentelmen or ladies, as the case me be ,about it. Same thing about answering a post looking for a service call, don’t be shy about it, get stuck in and use it!
Thing is, if we do answer these types of things and help people the site will get known for it and more people will use it just through word of mouth. Of course I’ll still promote it, but as we all know only too well, nothing beats word of mouth when it comes to advertising!
And on the figures, yes we’ll most likely pass the 1/4 million mark this week at some point and a quick rattle of calculator keys tells me that we should, if the site shows a small but steady growth, pass the million mark in the third quarter of 2004. Damned impressive for a site so young! 😀

KeymasterWell for all you stats fans out there you’ll be pleased to hear that we’ve just passed a quarter of a million page views since launch just one day over six months ago, as well as having our busiest day ever this month and so far out busiest month ever. The scary thing about that is that we’re only half way through the month!

Just for you Del, yes we have passed the quarter million mark, but better than that, so far this month we’ve had:
Our best month ever for page views, 52885 as of two or so ago at midnight and we’re only at the 18th of the month!
Our busiest day in the forums!
Our busiest day ever with 4172 in a day!
I’m gobsmacked! 😯

UK Whitegoods has been accepted onto the Google AdSense program (I hear a whoosh going over people’s heads already 😉 ) which is quite a prestigous little feather in the cap. Basically it’s a system of targetted adverts fed by Google over the net in real time.
I know that ads are loathed by some but they do serve a purpose other than just being ads in this case, there’s a lot more to it that than. This can increase exposure on Google and other site search engines and also give better keyword results, plus it’s not just any old site that’s accepted onto the program.
I’ve downloaded a custom block to display the ads in and this will not be seen by registered users when they sign in! It is only visible to anonymous users and site admin.
I have no idea if it will generate any income at all, the Amazon ones certainly haven’t, not a single penny, but if it does I’ll most likely fire into Li’s xmas fund for next year.

You may have noticed that there are a few manufacturers logos appearing on some items in the news as well as more personalised topics for those manufacturers. The reason is that what I was aiming for was to make it easier to find relevant material should it be required so from now on the topic. Hopefully this will build into a huge encyclopedia of information for the manufacturers as well as us since they can now see what the competition is all about with a single click so it helps them as much as it does us.
I will be building this up over time obviously but I’m not going back though nearly 400 stories to edit them all! 😉

Well two days into 2004 and we have our busiest day ever…again!
Added a “self-help” section in the articles, if anyone can add or correct me please feel free to open a thread somewhere and do so as it’s a work in progress, like all the rest. 😉
Also sorteed the reviews out and added a few, please feel free to add to these as well. Don’t worry if it’s not gramatically correct or long, I can soon sort that and flesh it out by editing.
Can someone please do some reviews on Zanussi, Whirlpool, Hotpoint (WMA would be nice ) and Hoover products? Love them or hate them you lot must have some opinions on the products!

You may have noriced that we passed 300,000 page views today. 😀
Google advert thingybob has produced $49.86 thus far, but they pay it in USD cheque, so by the time the bank takes a cut (as they do) and the exchange rate is taken into account that will just about buy a beer! 😆 I’m gonna let that one build up in an account somewhere though and perhaps enlist JP again. 😈
Actually the Google thing has produced some very interesting results statistically, but more on that some other time.

KeymasterIt’s been awhile since I did anything for users on the site, but a lot has gone on behind the scenes. 😉
Anyway, I have this afternoon added the Coppermine Photo Gallery module, you’ll see it in the main menu under “Photo Galleries”. Basically it does what it says on the tin so all you budding David Bailey’s can send in photos and I can get them up there.
Now what was that about a rogues gallery? 😆

The Help Desk
As posted in the public forums this allows more precise feedback to be given and specific email addresses to be targetted by the enquiries to specific people. One of the first ones that Dave and I discussed was using it for spares since Dave has sold a few bits off the site, which I personally have no issue with at all. However Dave has agreed that if we do it this way he’d give a percentage of each sale towards the UKW funds. Top man really even though he is a pastie muncher! 😆 So, that we’ll get in play next week when he comes back.
The reason is that since we put on a search engine analysis we found that we’ve been getting loads of hits from people looking for spares as well as technical info. Rather than having the traffic just move on when they can’t find what they want we thought we’d do better to capitilise on it a bit, or as much as we can for the benefit of all.
If anyone has a problem with this please let me know ASAP.
Also, if you have any ideas on what else should be there and who would deal with the enquiry (even if it is yourself) then please, again, let me know and we’ll get something set up.
K.
