ParticipantHi..quick update managed to get a identical used working control unit and it blew that board as well.. cant seem to managed to attach a picture but it has blown on the same place as the last, anyway i obviously have a short somewhere, the wiring runs from the control unit at the top of the fridge and down how can i trace this? anybody got a schematic or can explain how i can check the wiring? SMEG32 its only 3 years old?

ModeratorSmeg are one of those manufacturers that withhold all service info including wiring from anyone except authorised agents, so you may struggle
as for the photo host it on another site and post a public link

ParticipantWorking in the Electronics industry, you shouldn’t have any trouble tracing the wiring with a multimeter or simple continuity tester.
Before you do that though, have you checked the compressor windings to Earth ?. Also forget the continuity test for the windings, rely on the Ohms reading.November 12, 2019 at 12:13 pm #463674Smegy
ParticipantYes thanks continuity tested from the power cable up to the board all ok, power from the same 240v getting to board? (is this correct? is there some sort of dropper 12v/24v thats failed before the board?) no voltage between earth and neutral so thats ok, however in the smeg32 the wiring runs from the display/control board at the top of the fridge down the length of the unit and out the bottom thinking it may be shorting somwhere between the 2 points my question is.. how do i get to the wiring.. do i have to strip the sides off to access it ? is this possible, anybody know how to get to the wiring on the smeg32? or is there anything else that will cause blowing the control board, have checked the fan and sensors in the freezer and they all look fine and no burnt wires, will check the compressor to earth when i get home today.

ParticipantYou don’t actually need to get to the wiring within the cabinet to test it. As long as you can get to the ends, use your multimeter to test end to end continuity of each wire. Next pick one wire and check it to all others one by one & also to Earth on the cabinet to check for shorts, you can quickly check most if not all the wiring like this without removing panels.

ParticipantA high resolution picture of the board would be a good step if possible.

ParticipantNever uploaded pics so can’t help you with that, think most of the guys host on another platform and link to it. I’m sure Electrofix or one of the other guys will tell you how to do it.

ParticipantAt last a link that works… see attached board as explained i have 2 the same blown in the same place as you can see 3 dots on the white plastic connector, the left hand dot is the black wire it seems to be connected to the offending track on the board this black wire connects to the compressor relay top pin the next to the right is the brown live and next is the blue neutral any ideas?

ParticipantGood picture, have you Metered the compressor yet ?. If you have, what were the readings ?. Could also be a shorted relay.
