Sorry, that should have read Meggered.

Participantthanks replaced the relay so its not that, how do i check the compressor? can you send details i have checked continuity between all 3 pins and its ok.

Moderatorwell looking at the board its obvious you have a short circuit somewhere. Its not an earth fault otherwise it would trip your RCD and you don’t mention that.
looking at the board (yellow arrow), this looks like a triac to switch one of the fridge components. It switches live to the red arrow line. to find the fault you have to find out where and what this goes to

ParticipantHi Dave as explained this track goes to the black cable that runs down to the top pin on the compressor relay and goes into the top pin on the compressor. so could this be a faulty compressor? hi as mentioned in message 25 on page 2 the first board that blew tripped the RCD however the second did not.

Moderatorblowing the rcd on a short circuit is random. sometimes they do sometimes they don’t.
but if that goes to the compressor I would suspect itI assume you have already check the compressor components for damage if yes then its likely to be expensive to fix it

ParticipantThanks, on the compressor the top pin is the offending black cable the bottom left pin brown positive and bottom right pin is blue neg. ok if i put a tester between the 2 bottom pins brown and blue i get 0 ohms, between bottom left and top (black) 18.0 ohms and between bottom right blue and top black 18.0 ohms. so i should be getting a reading between the 2 bottom pos and neg and im not, is this correct?

Moderatori would have expected the 2 lower pins to have some resistance but it not my area of expertise

ParticipantWhen you say 0 Ohms, do you mean the same reading that you get with your meter probes separated or when the probes are together ?.
November 13, 2019 at 7:37 pm #463692Smegy
ParticipantYes 0.00 the same as when the 2 probes are crossed touching each other.

ParticipantSo would appear that’s your short circuit, between the Live / Neutral input leads to the compressor. No wonder it went bang. Think it’s time for the scrap man, I’d hate to think what a replacement compressor & re – gas would set you back. Maybe more than a new unit.

ParticipantDepends on what area of the country your in to be honest, but probably about the same again or more. Is it really worth it for a 3 year old appliance ?. You’ve already bought the machine, the relay and the PCB. You don’t have a working PCB so that’s more money, at the end of the day it’s your money and choice. Personally I’d cut my losses and put it down to bad experience.

ParticipantWill have a think.. have another PCB and relay, to buy a working one the same age between £400-£800 used and £1400-£1600 new so maybe worth it.

ParticipantGood luck, please think carefully & maybe get some advice from a local specialist refrigeration engineer who can see and assess the machine properly.
